sari shopping NY & NJ

I'm a non-South Asian bride shopping for a bridal sari for my wedding reception in October.  I'm looking for recommendations of places to shop in the NYC or Northern New Jersey areas.  Would appreciate any recommendations on places with good selections and good customer service.  Thanks!

Hi SiRose... Oak Tree Road in Edison, NJ is a good place to start.  Some places I have had success with are:  Sheetal, Om the Origin, and Gorgeous Studios.  Good luck!

Also - customer service at Sheetal is good if they aren't busy.  Same with Om.  Gorgeous is the only one that takes appts - so you have dedicated time / service.  I bought the sari for my sister's wedding 5 yrs ago from Sheetal and the reception and night before outfits from Gorgeous Studios.  For my wedding next month I got my panetar (wedding sari) from Om and reception outfits from Gorgeous Studios.

I second Om the Origin. I didn't end up buying my dress there, but they had a lot of beautiful options and were very nice. I bought my dress from the Mall at Oak Tree. I thought the clothes there were a little more expensive, though. Don't forget to haggle!

How much did you guys pay for your saris/lenghas (if you bought them in the US)?

My wedding isn't anytime soon, but one of the big dilemmas is whether to go to Pakistan and do all the major shopping there, or just to go to Houston/NYC. It basically boils down to what will be most cost-effective.

    It's my FIRST POST!!! :)
