Marros in Rye/Jean-Jacques--Creative Ideas to Dress it Up??

Hi All,

I'm new to the board and looking to see if anyone has ideas for/experience with dressing up my venue, the Marros in Rye.

A little about us: my name is Jacki and my FI is Dave.  We both grew up in Westchester but have since moved to GA.  We've been together since high school and moving around for the last few years to be together--we hope to move back up to NY soon.  It's been a little tough to plan a wedding from 900 miles away, but mostly we're just excited to come home for it!

Because we had limited time to see venues, our decision was rushed.  We booked the Marros in Rye, falling in love with the courtyard and the building.  I recently saw it again and had some doubts about whether it was the right decision.  Some parts feel kind of....shabby...when not dressed up.

Does anyone who knows the venue have ideas for dressing up the stage, downplaying the curtains (we hate the plaid), and making the sunken garden a little more umm garden-ish? I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Jacki

    Hi Jacki,

I am getting married at the Marros next May of 2012 and have been having similar thoughts about how to dress that room up.  The estate is beautiful and the room is nice and big, but it definitely needs some dressing up.  When is your wedding?

My only ideas so far were to go with floral arrangements placed around the room, but I've been asking around trying to get ideas.

Let me know what you are thinking and we can work together to come up with some ideas!!

It's great to know someone is in the same boat as me!

    Hi Meaghan,

I'm so sorry I didn't see your response until now.  I think you're right that floral arrangements are important to dress it up.  We're also considering making a wooden lattice, cut to fit the front of the stage, with flowers and ribbons interwoven and archways for the doors that lead into the ballroom.  (Luckily, my Dad is in construction and doesn't mind a project haha.)  Our wedding is Oct 2012, by the way.  Any new ideas?

    Hi ladies!
I'm getting married at the Marros estate as well. I've googled the site and found some photographer's blogs to get some ideas about dressing up the room. What I've found is that uplighting makes a WORLD of difference. It really makes the room look totally different, and you don't even notice that the curtains are plaid.
Have you thought of any other ideas?

You're totally right about the uplighting!  My future mother in law also offered to bring some flowers for the sunken garden (which, last I saw it, didn't have much planted)--it could probably use a splash of color.  Otherwise, I guess we can just do pictures offsite which is nbd.  As long as we make some of cocktail hour on that beautiful patio, I'm happy!
