Nuts or not

So we're making last minute decisions for the reception next weekend...

For more modern weddings - are Mixed nuts really a popular thing anymore?

The last couple of weddings my fiance and I've attended, we noticed that the bowls of nuts really don't go over as well as maybe they have once upon a time. I'm thinking of replacing this with chex mix. The other thing is - veggie plates. Is anyone else forgoing having these...I just tend to notice a lot of waste with these.

What are other brides doing - are they having nuts during their receptions? If not, what alternatives are you going with? Are you having the veggie plates? If not, what alternatives would you suggest?

Thanks! and congrats to everyone who's getting married!

the last couple of weddings i attended did not do the mixed nuts. candy or mints that match your wedding colors seem to be the "it" thing these days.

I find all those platters tend to go to waste at most weddings these days. People fill up on the other stuff first and everything else just seems like leftovers.

thanks for the feedback, y'all! :)

We (my MIL and I) actually made close to 900 cream cheese mints, in our wedding colors.  Any weddings I've ever attended, that have served/offered these, they've been a HUGE hit!

Perhaps I'm bias (since I am allergic to nuts), but it is a rather common allergy, so I'd skip them.  During the cocktail hour we are having cheese & crackers, veggies, and fruit.

  • Gourmet nuts are always nice! Like Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds or Chipotle Roasted Peanuts or Cashews. This Etsy shop sells 4oz and 2oz gold tins of them by request (and their prices are VERY reasonable). Check 'em out! :)
