New here! :) Photog advice?

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and in the beginning planning stages. :)

I have a quick photographer question...
I'm narrowing down my choices, but I've noticed that they all seem to have choices of 6, 7, 8hr packages available.
How many hours did you hire your wedding day photographer for, and did you think it was it enough??  If you'd like to say who you booked, that would be great as well!

Thank you!

My photographer is an all day deal.  She doesn't have 'hourly' packages. I plan to have her there when I am getting hair and makeup done and her husband will be with the boys while they golf the morning of.  She will stay until I ask her to leave @ the reception sometime.  I want to make sure she catches everyrthing...I am paying her big bucks to do so.

I am using Kimberly Williams Photography and she is soooooo great and talented.

Mine has a 6 hour package, I'm not interested in having getting ready pictures and whatnot- all I care about are formals, ceremony and part or all of the reception. I think that's plenty of time considering what I'm looking for.

    I booked Render Photography.

I think a lot of photogs will customize a package for the type of coverage you want.  Our photographer was Elise at Elisabeth Ann Photography.  We did an all day package so she was there once I started getting my hair and make up done through dinner and our important dances so about 12 hours.  They were awesome!

I had 8 hours of coverage. LOVED my photographer!!!

I didnt have them come to the hair salon where we were getting ready but I did have them there for me putting on my dress and jewelry and everything after that.

I did an 8 hour package and got exactly what I wanted but wished I would have had them for a bit longer to get some later dancing pics after all the importnant dances.

    Hi!

I booked my photog for 8 hours, she has 2 photographers with us during that time, and we also did the add on of a stop-motion photo booth that her second shooter will run for two of those hours.  Her name is Sara Montour

She will be with us for the getting dressed at the church, until around 8 PM, which we should be finished with most of the stuff by then.

I would also suggest finding someone that gives you the rights to your photos, so that you can print what you want on your own instead of having to pay premium to go through the photographer for pictures/albums.

Mine has all different packages and hours.
I am booking them for the whole day and night.
    I used Midwest LifeShots.

We booked our Photog for 10 hours. She and her assistant stayed a little later to get some more dance pictures though. We did all our formals before the ceremony so she was there 10:30 - 9.

I think our coverage was perfect. We got a lot of non pro pictures of the dancing that got some of the goofy dance moves.... personally I dont think you need to be a pro to get action shots during the dance.... but you do need the pros for lighting and positioning during formals, ceremony etc.

    GL! and Welcome!

We booked Render Photography for 9 hours.  So we had to pay extra for another 3 hours of coverage.  GL with your search!

We did 8 hours of coverage. It was perfect. Photog started at 2:00pm and stayed (a little late) till 10:20pm. Though he knows our family/friends of our family well so by that point he was having a beer and his wife was dancing with us!

Mine didn't have set hour packages either, he was just there all day. He showed up when I wanted him there and stayed until the party died down. We used Ben Berndt!

    welcome to the boards!

We had 2 photographers all day: from 9am-10pm as they provide unlimited coverage.  If I had to narrow it down, I would have said from 11am (putting on my dress)-9pm (completion of special dances) would have been sufficient, but I wouldn't have wanted any less or they would have missed our first dance, and parent dances.  (My dad ended up giving a 40 minute toast!!-so it we ended up being behind in our evening timeline)  Ultimately though, I'm SO glad we had unlimited time with our photogs or we wouldn't have gotten a lot of our favorite shots.
