Readings during the ceremony

My future Hubby and I attended a wedding this weekend and learned a few things...like a reading of some (most likely not religious) during the ceremony. Any brides out there doing this, and what did you choose?

Re: Readings during the ceremony

  • Readings are really common, as far as I'm aware (I've never been to a wedding without them). Some places only allow you to have certain readings (some churches, for example, will only allow biblical readings, etc.) but we are actually having two non-religious readings: 1) A letter from Abigail to John Adams and 2) a Poem. My friend who got married last year had a reading from The Velveteen Rabbit. If you google "wedding readings" you can get a ton to change from (everything from historical to humorous, to novels, to religious...)

  • What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We are tentatively planning to have our officiant do this reading- it is called 'To My Friend'

I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.

I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me.

I love you because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me good,

and more than any fate could have done to make me happy.

You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign.

You have done it by being yourself.

Perhaps that’s what being a friend means, after all.
