Flower girl dress, who pays?

So I'm still not 100% sure if we're having a flower girl but who pays for the flower girl's dress? And is it the same as a ring bearer's suit and junior BM dress?

Backstory for anyone interested: I'm having my cousin's 2 kids in the wedding 1 will be a junior BM and the other is our ring bearer. My FI has a favorite cousin who could also be a junior BM but she has a younger sister who is her parent's favorite (that is also kind of bratty and not my favorite on his side) so if her sister is in the wedding I know she'll have to be in it. So she could be the flower girl. I still need to talk it all over with FI but I wasn't sure who payed for all these dresses/suits.

Re: Flower girl dress, who pays?

  • I think generally the parents pay for the kids' clothing. This was actually a concern of ours. We're going to ask my fiance's cousin's son (whew!!) to be our ring bearer, but my fiance's cousin and her husband aren't well off financially. We didn't want to overburden them by asking them to buy a suit that in all likelihood, the ring bearer will grow out in a couple of months. However, after running it past my fiance's mom, she assured us that someone in the family would take care of the suit for the ring bearer.
  • I'm pretty sure the parents pay, but I'm sure they would appreciate you picking something not too expensive. :)

  • Generally I believe the parents pay for the dresses/suits. My flower girl is my sister's goddaughter and my parents did offer to pay for her dress - but they can also afford it and know that her mother would pay for it if she were asked to.

  • Thank you everyone. I thought the parents paid but I wanted to be sure since I didn't want to have 4 more outifts to buy and wasn't sure I could work it into our budget.

  • I agree with everyone above!

And Emily, you can also rent suits for kids, when my MOH got married her son was 1.5 and it didn't really make sense to buy something that he would only wear once, so they rented his suit at the same place they rented his dad's/my MOH's husband's tuxedo.
