Prices for Flowers

I just recently went to see the florist that my venue uses for all occassions, and she did an excellent job of listening to what we want, but the prices are crazy! We do want quite a few flowers, but is $2100 too much for flowers? We have my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, groom and 5 groomsmen, 9 boutioneers/coursages for parents and others, and then 20 centerpieces for the reception. We are not doing any flowers for the church. Is $2100 too much? I'm really feeling like it is.

Opinions and comments are more than welcome!

It depends on your area and the quantity and types of flowers you are using.  Post this on the local board for your area to get a better feel of what the going rate is there.  20 centerpieces is certainly going to drive the price up.  But what you are having and what you are paying is very comparable to what I did.  I actually spent a little more and got a little less (in 2009).

In my opinion, and from the Detroit area as well, it may be about right.  What kind of flowers are you using?  The kind of flower will alter the price.

Doesn't sound excessive to me at all...

I was quoted at 1500 with 15 Centerpieces, 3 BM bouquets, 6 Boutinerres, 3 JR BM bouquets, Bridal Bouquet and 6 Corsages.  It sounds pretty close IMO; but a lot of it depends on the flowers you chose and the set up fees.

That sounds about right to me too...unless you're using inexpensive types of flowers; then that might be a bit high.

that's kind of what i was thinking. for flowers we are using bells of ireland, spider mums, a few roses, and calla lillies and some berries for my bouquet, the girls and the guys boutioneers. for the reception we are doing 'dinner plate' hydrangeas on some tables and on the other tables we are doing the curly willow branches. i will post this on the board for my area, but any and all opinions are welcome!! thanks!

In the Northeast I'm spending $10,000 for 7BM, 7GM, 25 tables, ceremony flowers, and a chuppah.  And it's probably average pricing for an upscale wedding

I was quoted $14,000 for flowers for my event in West Palm Beach FL.  Now, THAT's an insane quote.  8 table centerpieces, 5 bridesmaids and flowers for the church and a few tables for cocktail hour.  Insane!

I always told potential brides at the florist I worked for that you should plan on spending about 10% of your entire wedding budget on flowers. So if your wedding budget is $20,000 you should plan on spending about $2,000 of that on flowers.  For how much you are getting, $2,100 seems very reasonable.  If you are still unsure or wary of the price you should shop around and see what other florists in your area will offer as far as price for the same flowers/arrangements.
