My worst nightmare- Updated

So, my mother possibly has pneumonia, and if that's the case, she wpn't be able to fly out to the wedding. I don't know what to do, I can't even imagine not having her there. What would you do?

She has a 102 degree fever and a cough, she's going to the dr today and is supposed to get on a plane tomorrow.

EEK! I do not know what I would do. Can she possibly change her ticket a day later? Good luck!

Oh hetshup!  That is awful!  But, if she gets antibiotics today she might be starting to feel good enough to at least get on a plane by tomorrow night, although I doubt she'd be up for much at the reception. . . is there any way for her to fly out as late as Thursday morning so she can maximize the time she has to start recovering??

Oh no, Hetshup! I'm sorry that your Mom is so sick -- hopefully it's walking pnuemonia (which while it sucks) is not as deblitating and can be turned around pretty quickly. I know it's not likely she can change her flight out but if she can call the airline and push it back a day or so, just to give her time to rest, it would help.

Either way I wish you the best and I hope she makes it there!

See what she finds out from the doctor before you freak out too much.  There's nothing you can do (and nothing you should do) until you know for sure what you're dealing with.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it's not pneumonia, though!

I'm sorry to hear that your mom is sick. Can she change her ticket for a day or so later? I hope she feels better and is able to make it to your wedding.

I'm so sorry Hetshup!  Hang in there, it will work itself out somehow!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for bronchitis - antibiotics can do a world of good in 24-48 hours.  Hopefully she'll be able to get there, if not tomorrow then Thursday!

Everything PPs said. If she can push her flight back a day, it will give her a chance to recover a bit more, and antibiotics usually start to work in 24-48 hours. I wish you both all the best, though! That's really crappy news :(

I agree with Elle, try not to freak out too much until you get the final verdict from the doctor.

Ok, she 's feeling much better. She's got an infection in her lungs, but it should get knocked out really fast. My step-dad is getting her meds right now and she'll be on day two by the time she gets on the plane tomorrow. And they gave her cough syrup with codine so she can sleep.

Thank you for all your wishes, I know it helped. It helped keep me calm too.

Oh, I'm so glad she'll be able to get on the plane!  I assume your step-dad is flying with her?  That should help for sure.  That way she doesn't have to carry her own luggage or anything, right?

Yay!!!  It will all be okay!  Those antibiotics will knock it out really quick - she'll probably still have a cough and not be 100% by your wedding, but she should still be able to enjoy herself!

I had a 101 fever, felt like my sinuses were going to explode, couldn't breathe, and was a complete snot-factory a week ago Wednesday - I actually stayed home from work!  And we left for Europe two days later on Friday, and I was fine for doing stuff on Saturday - still had a box of tissues, but it didn't negatively impact our trip at all.  So just a personal story to let you know that it's totally possible for her to feel wayyyyyy better in time for Saturday!  And sinus pressure on planes is way worse than having mucus on your lungs!  She'll be just fine!

The dr told her to take afrin for the sinus pressure. I'm just happy she's ok!

Yeah, Afrin definitely helps.  I was a little uncomfortable when the plane was landing, but seriously I was totally fine on Saturday - sniffles, took more drugs, but it didn't get in my way.  So all I was trying to say is don't worry - your Mom has plenty of time to feel better!  You probably won't even notice at your wedding that she has a cold at all!

I'm so glad to scroll down to the end of this thread and see that it turns out well :-)

Sorry your mom isn't feeling well, regardless of whether or not its pneumonia.

I'm glad she'll be able to make it though!
