Memorial Reading

My FI mom passed away when he was around 10.  He wants his brother to do a short reading in memory of her.  Any ideas where I can find one? TIA!

    Those we love
are never really lost to us--
    we feel them
    in so many special ways-
    through friends
    they always cared about
    and dreams they left behind,
in beauty that they added to our days . . .
in words of wisdom we still carry with us
and memories that never will be gone . . .
Those we love are never really lost to us--
For everywhere their special love lives on.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on,
    and cherished memories never fade
    because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.

I found these online. Your fiance and his brother can read some poems and see if they like any that they find.

  • Ehhhhhh, I would say this isn't a good idea. I definitely am not against bringing in subtle memories throughout the ceremony, but a formal reading like that sets a different (and rather sad) mood.

I agree with PP, maybe he can carry a picture of her in his pocket, place a flower on a seat where she would be sitting, light a candle in remembrance, or include a little note about her in the wedding program....

  • Don't let people talk you out of this, I think it's lovely.  As long as the poem you read isn't sad and about missing a person, but about life and how it should be treasured.  I think the candles and the empty chair and everything can be ok too, but there is no harm in an uplifting reading that is noted in the program as honoring those who aren't with us.

    I like:
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it.

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
