The Grandview in Poughkeepsie - Tent Question

I have asked in the past about the tent and have gotten very nice feedback, thank you! In doing research for entertainment, I spoke with a snippy DJ who was trying to tell me that since in the tent they have to plug into the Grandview's system that the music is low and poor quality. I find it hard to believe since they have been doing events for the last 5 years, but can someone out there who has had the tent, let me know if it was still a "rockin party" for you??

I didn't have my reception there. But I do know that the DJ's are required to use the Grandview's sound system and amplifier. Maybe that's what he was getting at and what he was annoyed about? (By the way, hope you are still DJ searching!)

HAHA! Yes, I am definitely still looking...he was just making it sound like that since Grandview controlled the music and since the speakers are hidden in the top of the tent that the sound was not good and they would keep the music low. I don't need a bass rocking tent, haha, but I do what the music louder to have a fun party.

I think they have noise restrictions because it is outside.  I'm pretty sure they have to end everything by 10 or 10:30 so they  don't violate the noise ordinance.

If you are looking for a DJ I highly recommend Gary Whittaker from Strictly Entertainment DJs.  He was fantastic!!

Yes they are required to use their speakers due to new ordinance (there are some apartments nearby).

Anyway there wasn't any problem with the sound it was still loud and clear and kept the party going.  EDIT: It was still a ROCKIN party!!! :)HTH

Actually, my DJ (DJ Bri) mentioned that a really nice feature at the Grandview is that the speakers are over the dance floor so the music is heard plenty loud by the people who are dancing, but that those that are sitting at the tables can talk to one another without shouting.

Is that just for the tent or for the ballroom also?

He was talking about the tent specifically. I'm not sure of the ballroom's set-up or restrictions. Hope some of the girls who used the ballroom can answer!

We had our reception in the ballroom. To be honest, I have no idea where the speakers were. I can't picture them over the dance floor. All I know is that we had a big party crowd, and the dance floor was never empty. We certainly had no trouble hearing the music. The restrictions for the noise ordinance do not apply if you are in the indoor ballroom. Our reception ended at midnight.

We were in the tent and when I booked (4 years ago) it wasn't a rule but became a rule during my planning process before my wedding (3 years ago) I was quite upset and they actually had me bring an ipod and come and listen to it. I was VERY impressed and happily moved forward with planning. The day of the wedding the band LOVED it, they said the quality was top notch and it made it easier to load in for them and get sound checks done. It was great because it wasn't very loud over the tables but plenty loud over the dance floor. Our dancefloor was packed and we heard the music just fine. Yes, we had to end at 10:30 but it was great- we just moved the party to Shadows :)
