Heel pain?

I'm more of a lurker over here but thought you girls could help me out..

So this past month has been REALLY rough... I'm on my feet all day, 12 hour shifts at the hospital.  Well when I sit down and relax for a minute or even after being on them for a few hours my feet start to hurt particularly in my heel area.  I went and had my feet fitted for tennis shoes at runners, thought that would help and no luck.  I can't go bare footed at all in the house without my feet hurting, doing the dishes and cleaning for an hour makes me have excruciating pain.  Any thoughts on what else to do?  My exercise this past month went out the window because I'm in soo much pain when I'm on my feet.  Hopefully it warms up in MI soon so I can go for bike rides...

TIA!

Re: Heel pain?

  • Well, first, try wearing a pair of Crocs or comfortable sandals around the house.  We really aren't meant to be walking barefooted.  That might help some.

I had similar pain when I first started running and was told I had plantar fasciitis.  I'd suggest taking some time to stretch out your heels and feel before standing up (both first thing in the morning and when you've sat down for a second) and see if that helps.

You could also look into the Dr. Scholls insole that are meant to help eliviate heel pain.

At night if you're in pain, freeze two waterbottles and roll your feet over them.  I found that helped alot.

And if all else fails, see your doctor.  You might need custom orthotics.

  • Dito raynes about plantar fascitis.  The stretching really helps (you can google for good stretches to do).  Lately I find that I'm only in a lot of pain if I forget to stretch or don't stretch well. The Dr Scholls inserts are good to although I've found I have to replace them often.
  • I use super feet inserts for the same thing. They just came out with a women's version called Berry and they fit my feet very well. They were also reccomended by my doctor and carried by running stores. I have plantar fascitis, heel spurs, and bursitis..it is worth a try!
