Addressing the invites!

I can't really afford to have a caligrapher address my invites for me and I don't have the best of hand-writing. My return address is printed on the flap on the back of the invite but how do you all feel about printing labels with the addresses (in a nice font, of course) and sticking them on the front of the envelopes?

Re: Addressing the invites!

  • Traditional etiquette says this is a no-no, however it is not the handwriting that is a problem, it is the fact that we live 650 miles away from family and friends who could help do them and/or other stuff, so to answer your question, we are doing labels. FI doesn't care and normally I am really particular and anal, but just can't be with the time that remains. A good friend of mine got married last fall and she did address labels bc both of their handwriting is lousy, so I think it is fine. It is not back in the day when everybody talked if you didn't follow ettiquette. Besides brides today do what the heck they want, so I say go for it.

Create a template for yourself in word (fi did this for me) and then i typed all of them up and printed them. our labels are really nice, silver foil around them to match our invites. Good luck
  • It is generally considered preferable (if you are not going to handwrite them) to print the address directly onto the envelope rather than using a label - I don't know if this is an option for you.

  • We are using clear labels as our handwriting is not as neat as we'd like. They look very nice in the font and wedding color we used. Also, I've really started to use Microsoft Publisher for my wedding projects and it's been great!
  • i read someone printed the address in a light ink in a nice font, then went over each one by hand with a caligraphy or fancy pen. the original printed ink isnt even visable, but this way you get the best of both worlds, no errors (as long as there were no typos!) and good handwriting.

we will most likely be printing ours directly on to the envelope.

the only "etiquitte " that i care about is how i treat my family and friends, not something as unimportant IMO as writing on an envelope.

  • Are you looking for someone to address your invitations?  I couldn't find a service so I created my own writing to serve the needs of people who want fancy writing, but don't know where to find it.

My mission is to provide elegance to your special occasion envelopes. I offer that special service that you so desire, but at an affordable price. I have created an Etsy store with my calligraphy writing. My prices are very reasonable.

Here is the link to my Etsy store:

I look forward to hearing from you! KKC
