Hello!

Hi everyone!

I just recently got engaged (last weekend)!  Unfortunately, we have to wait for my little brother to get back from Afghanistan before we can hold a wedding.  He will leave sometime around March or April of 2012 and return in December.  My fiance and I are tentatively hoping for a wedding date of April 6, 2013.  I am already excited to start planning even though it is so far away!  Our wedding will be held near in the Northeast suburbs near Lindstrom, MN where my parents live.  Any ideas for venues would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to hearing more about your weddings as well!  :-)

    Congratulations!!

Start getting ideas now! I swear, I instantly saw my wedding when he proposed, but my plans and ideas have changed about a gazillion times since then! What type of wedding do you dream of? Outdoor? Indoor? Traditional?

I went to an outdoor wedding at Panola Valley Gardens in Lindstrom a few years ago and it was lovely!

Welcome and congrats!  I agree with PP, start planning now :)  It's fun, and then you will have plenty of time to get whatever you want done.

Congrats on your engagement!! It's so exciting, isn't it?? I've never been to the Lindstrom area, so I'm not much help suggesting venues, but I wanted to say hi and welcome :) The ladies on here are so helpful! I've booked a few vendors based on their recommendations. Enjoy the long engagement, the wedding will be here before you know it! And I'm sure it'll mean the world to your brother to see you on your big day!

Thanks ladies!  I think the long engagement will be great for planning as well.  Since we are thinking early April, we are probably going to shoot for an indoor venue as it may still be somewhat chilly then.  I will have to check out Panola though as I have heard great things about them as well!  Thanks for all of your responses!

Congrats and welcome! I agree with the others to start getting ideas now. I have had a long engagement and it has been nice to spend money a little more spread out rather than in bulk. It's also nice having a lot of time to plan so it is a little less stressful. Good luck!

Congrats and welcome!  The advantage of a long engagement is that you get first pick of your vendors!  So I'd start researching the stuff you want and booking in the next couple months.

Congrats! No worries on the long engagement....I got engaged in April 2009 and just got married this past September (2 years and 5 months later) and I found the long engagement super beneficial! I got my first pick on all my vendors and saved a ton by booking them early, plus I had lots of time for DIY and research to figure out exactly what I wanted. Happy planning!
