Cheap Reception Places in MSP

My cousin is getting married sometime in the near future and has asked about some tips to keep things as cheap as possible. What are some of the cheaper reception places in MSP. Her total budget is about $8000. TIA for the ideas!

Is $8000 the entire wedding budget, or just the reception budget?  How many people will it be for, since catering is on a per person basis?

$8000 for the whole wedding, she's thinking under 100 people for the guest list.

Olympic Hills Golf Course gave me a really good quote at under $5,000 for 125-150 people, but that did not include liquor.  That was with their off-season discount, though, so it'd be more if it's between May-October.

Does she have any idea what area she wants to be in or whether she prefers a hotel, event space, or manor type of feel?  If you click on the "Local Resources" page, you'll be able to find a bunch of different places with websites you can view.

There are a lot of places to do such things, just depends basically on food to be honest.
Do you know where exactly she wants it....are suburbs of MN okay?
If so, Coon rapids civic center is totally cheap! and you can have whoever you want cater it and they don't even have to be licensed! So you save WAY much money based on that, and you could easily do a $8000 wedding!
Also, in Edina I think, Its the centennial lakes park....beautiful wedding location, only the reception place is a little small...but totally resonable, and you get to pick any licensed caterer as well :)
I have more ideas if you like....

We got married at The Mermaid in Mounds View.  They were very, very reasonably priced.  Plus, we got married on a Friday night which really helped us save money.  I'd definitely recommend looking into a Friday or Sunday wedding.

We were very pleased with River Oaks in Cottage Grove.  We also did a Friday night wedding that saved some $$.

I also liked Mississippi Dunes, also in Cottage Grove, but it was not available for our date.

Thoght I would throw this out there: Holiday Inn in Maple Grove has something like a 3200 food and bev min. and their prices on food seemed pretty reasonable to me. It is a smaller room that seats max 140, so this could be the right size for a venue.

Check out The Knot MN Wedding Venue section as well  because you can sort by prices.  Link below.  Good luck!

Check out the Washington County Historic Courthouse. It is a fantastic mid 19th c. building that is really reasonably priced. I think it will cost us $900 there on a Sunday including things like rental insurance and security. The best part is that you can pick your own caterer!!! I'm not kidding when I tell you that most places lock you into EXPENSIVE packages with preferred vendors. This way you can select the vendors that will give you the best food for the best price and you can provide your own alcohol. We're saving SO much money this way.

I am not sure what kind of venue they are looking for, such as Hotel, Gold Course, other? But the Graves 601 Hotel in downtown Minneapolis has a beautiful space and in Feb. and March they offer extremly good discounts on the ballroom. Email Donna and see what she can do for you. I have worked with her for multiple events and I have always told her what my budget was and what they could do for me there. Easy to get a hold of and very prompt at getting back to you.

The Centinnel Lakes in Edina, as phreakigurl suggested is also very beautiful and isnt expensive to rent. You can also have the ceremony at the Ampitheater.

    Good luck!

If she's willing to go off-season or Friday/Sunday have her check out Profile EVent Center.  The minimum for a Sunday off-season was like $2750 or something.  We'll go way over that.  But even for 200 people, we're planning on $7,000.  Total. With tip and tax and linens and 3 choices for a buffet and no rental fees.
