Hot Cocoa Mix Favors

So my FH and I have agreed we love the idea of having personalized hot cocoa mix as our favors for our winter wedding. However, all the websites we've seen that sell these have only a limited selection of overly cutesy templates for the labels, and they really aren't our style.

Does anyone know of a website offering single serving hot cocoa packets with blank labels that you can just design and print yourself? Or am I asking too much of the hot cocoa world?

I don't know abut that but what about buy a bunch of boxes of the mix and then putting your own labels over them.  I've seen people do this with wine bottles.

Or put them in a bag with some marshmallows and peppermint sticks and putting a label on the bag.

I don't know if these are too cutsey for you....

    http://www.beau-coup.com/wedding-cocoa-favors.htm

... and I think the PP idea of repackaging a ready made mix is a great one....

mysticl: I considered just using store-bought packets I buy myself, but I they tend to have branding information in every nook and cranny, looks kind of cheap.

I'll be making up my own bags of them if necessary as a last resort, but I like the clean look of the sealed packets I've seen online. I guess I could just order the personalized ones and stick my own labels over top, but it really seems like a waste.

arv266: Yeah, those are the exact cutesy ones I'm talking about, lol.

onlinelabels.com has great labels so you can print your own.  I love the idea with a peppermint stick!

hang on . . . I will hunt down some for you.  There is a brand I actually think it is Land O Lakes in nice metallic packages.

Ooh, metallic sounds good. Yeah, my main concern is finding nice looking packets, labels are easy enough to do.

K fixed my fail. HAHAHA.  Anyway those hot chocolates are actually VERY tasty.  Each flavor is a different color packet.  You might possibly be able to match your wedding colors.  YAY fun hot chocolate!

I think Godiva has some in metallic packs too but they are WAY more pricey.

    HTH!

Thanks for that, those colours will definitely not work, but I appreciate the thought!

The Godiva are brown so they would match :)  Can you tell I get excited about all things chocolate?

LOL. You and me both! I may end up with the Godiva...those look heavenly, and it looks like they'd actually cost about the same per packet as the personalized ones on other websites. And since I would be redoing the labels no matter what... We may have a winner.

Do you have a favorite hot cocoa mix? I think it would be more important that you give your guests a taste of something you truly love, then end up getting a mix that is sub-par, but personalized. Like a PP said you could get the mix you like and personalize the packaging you wrap them in. We had a bride that used the land o'lakes ones because they were her favorite, and had them in these great mugs from Colonial Williamsburg because that's where the wedding was. It was super cute and her guests loved it!

You could take the mix that you like and put them into smaller zip top baggies (you can either do snack-size bags or go to the craft stores and check out the many sizes for jewelry or even baking) and make your label to be stapled on top of the bag (they make staples in many colors now).  I thought the idea of the peppermint stick was a neat idea as well - you could even tie one to the label (just punch a hole in the label and tie the ribbon through it).

Whatever you decide, make sure you post a picture, it sounds like a great idea.

Point, but it's kind of hard to top Godiva's, so if I go with that, I don't think sub-par mix will be a problem!

I do prefer the look of factory-sealed packages to home-made options. I guess if I put baggies of mix into nice looking pocket envelopes and put our labels on the outside of those, it might work. We'll see.

The peppermint stick idea is definitely great, but I'm trying to avoid anything Christmassy at the wedding because it'll be well after the holiday season. Maybe cinnamon sticks? They'd sure smell good!

Have you been on the "winter wedding" board? Mrs. Luebke (my favorite wedding so far), had a hot chocolate bar. It was gorgeous and I'm sure she can lead you in a better direction!

Look around, I think you can get peppermint sticks that aren't necessarily white & red. Another thought would be mini marshmallows. Everyone loves Marshmallows in their hot chocolate.

I would totally DIY on this one.

Buy plastic bags/boxes (like this: http://www.nashvillewraps.com/candy-boxes/favor-boxes/sku-1129.html)

Fill up the bottom half with cocoa mix from a bulk container using a funnel (like this cocoa mix: http://www.seriouschai.com/i1698.asp)

Then fill a layer with chocolate chips
Then fill a layer with marshmallows

Then tie it with a bow, print off custom labels to stick on the front (like these: http://www.myownlabels.com/wedding_labels/)

    They'd look something like this:

I was going to say what calindi said but wanted to add that you could also do crushed peppermint candy canes as a layer. You could even find small mason type jars and create your own round label to put on top of the jar.

I found these that I thought were pretty unique -- haven't really seen them anywhere

  • edited December 2011
I know this is old, but since I was searching for the best way to DIY this, I thought I would resurrect and add my findings so far.  I ended up ordering the bags to do this at Walmart

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Clear-Treat-Bags-12-Cone-20-Pkg/11061503

I also found similar ones at Amazon.  I'm so excited to do this because I'm secretly hoping people will actually use these rather than the usual stuff that just gets thrown in a drawer.
