When to register?

My FI's aunt has already asked him where we are registering and we aren't getting married until November.  When is it appropriate to register?
My next problem is that we are building a house and I feel like I won't know what we will need until that is ready.  Also, both of us have lived on our own for a while and have a lot of the neccessities.  I want to get rid of some stuff and get new from our registry.  How much is appropriate to register for? or Any suggestions?

I would go register for the upgrade items that you want soon.
We also have lived on our own, but we did new sheets, towels, and kitchen items.
You always can add more when you know what you need.
  • I would register now. Register for more needed/upgraded things now (i.e. pots and pans, china/crystal). You can always go back to your registry and add things before/after showers and when it's closer to your wedding day.

  • I'd start registering now.  We're getting married in September and didn't finalize our registry until early March, and posted it a few weeks ago on our website.  Two things are already purchased on it.  I'm having my shower in June.

I underestimated how much I'd want to mess with the registry after we set it up.  We could have gone earlier than we did, and I would have had more time to perfect it before people started buying stuff off of it.
  • I am also getting married in November and we registered in March. You can always add or deleted items on your registry. =)
