Boston Harbor Hotel vs Intercontinental

Hi everyone!

I just got back to L.A. after my Thanksgiving trip home to Boston. My family and I checked out a bunch of hotels and venues and loved the Bost Harbor Hotel the most! We also were fans of the Intercontiental next door.

My q: I know Boston Harbor Hotel is a popular spot- we are having a guest count of approx. 200 people- are the reps from the hotel easy to work with and interested in negotiating a bit or do they stick to the books. We are also considering having a luncheon on a holiday weekend and were hoping to be more budget friendly that way, too- does BHH consider time of day in regards to budgets?

Thanks so much in advance!!! ANy other favorite venues for 200 guests and a budget of 35kish for venue and food?

My mother had her second wedding at the BHH 8 or 9 years ago and from what I remember they were REALLY flexible with her. I remember her getting a really great deal - she basically went to them and said she was open and flexible as far as dates go, and timing, etc. The hotel helped her pick a day where they could give her a deep discount (not sure if it was because it was unbooked, or off-season, or what). She had a black tie, open-bar, stationed reception and it was affordable and beautiful. GL!

Definitely talk to teh catering staff at BHH.  They will work with you if you are honest with them about your budget, guest list and expectations.  If you are planning an off-season wedding (pretty much now til April 2010) you can score a killer deal there.  Michael and Courtney are very easy to work with if you have a budget in mind.

Good Luck!  It's a beautiful property!

I live in LA as well and got married this past summer - was a pain to plan.  I looked at BHH but did not see the Intercontinental.  I really liked BHH but we had a Friday night wedding so if we had the ceremony outside in their glass gazebo type thing (200 wouldn't fit though) then we would get work traffic walking by to the boat.

We ended up getting married at the Seaport Hotel and I highly recommend it!  I also loved the Liberty Hotel

They would not budge on a 2009 memorial day weekend wedding.  I think the minimum was $38K, exclusive of fees and taxes and hotel rooms were in the low$300s.  To me, it just wasn't worth it.

That being said, they may have more wiggle room now that the economy has crumbled.

We looked at the BHH when we were checking out places, and they were a little flexible for a Friday night wedding in June but not by much.  Basically they only gave us a slight discount on the minimum for the wharf room.  They also had really expensive prices for the hotel rooms for OOT guests (over $300/night) and I didn't want the hassle of finding another hotel for guests to stay at.

In the end, we had our wedding at the Seaport Hotel which is just around the corner and they offered us the option of either 1) $5000 off our minimum or 2) $2750 off the minimum with a 10% discount per person.

I looked into the Intercontinental and didn't find that they were very receptive. However, I have heard great thing about BHH!

Whatever you do, don't look at the Renaissance on the waterfront, if only I had known before I booked with them!!!
