Pressing dress underlining?

Has anyone ever done this on their own? My seamstress pointed out that the underlining of my dress is really wrinkled up and would need to be pressed out before I wear it. She said that she would do it...for $100...yikessss.

She mentioned that I can do it myself, at home, but it may take 2-3 hours.

Has anyone tried it? Is it really that difficult?
Or should I just take it back to her to do it? =\

I've never done that but I would just take it to her.

I don't know anything about wedding dresses yet but my first thought would be that she's trying to get another 100 bucks out of me. Perhaps with your dress you can tell if the under part is all wrinkled because it's laying wrong or something. I would just use your best judgment.

My underlining was really wrinkled up too. I'm letting the dress "fall" instead of keeping it shoved in the bag. Try working the bunches out with your hands.

The problem with trying to press the underlining is that the netting is full of holes, so any steam goes right through it. If you try to press it ourself, put it between two towels so that it has some weight and material to catch the steam.

    good idea!

really, in the grand scheme of things, the $100 to pay the lady probably isn't a huge deal, but ...if I can save $100, then why the heck not! lol.

    Britt,

For me, it wasn't a matter of the wrinkles, its a matter of it being bunched up and the dress not laying smooth.

Yeah, I think I should maybe try it on again and see how it feels. If you can't really tell and its not uncomfortable, then I guess you have a point...

Now that I think about it, I never noticed it during the alterations. When I picked up my dress, she pointed it out and said she'd do it for $100....I guess maybe I don't need to!

I'll mess with it tomorrow and see...

    Thanks!
