    1. Last book(s) read
    - The Hunger Games Trilogy

1a. Did you enjoy it and/or would you recommend it to others?
    - HECK YES! I loved the series and have recommended it to TONS of people who also enjoyed it. (Movie is coming out in March for the 1st book).  It's a Dystopian novel and is written for youth adults and I was pleasantly surprised since it's out of the 'norm' of what I read!

    2. Book currently reading
-The Divergent. Similar to HG as it's also dystopian and has similarities. Also finding it quite good. I believe it has been picked up for a movie as well and the author is curently working on a second book?

    3. Book(s) I want to read next
-Next up I am going to try to read A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard and The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I heard the Stolen Life is a hard but really good read. As for the Help, I've watched the movie when it came out and now I'm going to read the book (Usually I read then watch the movie but I didnt realize it was a book first until I got to the theatre lol oh wells)

  • 1. Last book(s) read
"Constant Princess" by Philippa Gregory.  It's about Cathrine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry the VIII.  It was mostly fiction with a little history mixed in, but it was still good.
1a. Did you enjoy it and/or would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I really enjoyed it, and would 100% reccomend it to someone.
    2. Book currently reading
    "Equal Rites" by Terry Prachet
    3. Book(s) I want to read next
Next I want to expand my Terry Prachet collection, and buy a few more of his books!

I have actually read both of them. The one about Jaycee Dugard is a bit heart breaking to know that kind of stuff really happened.

The Help is so great! You will really enjoy the book. I think I hit just about every emotion while I read it.

  • I will preface this by saying I am a science fiction / fantasy reader, pretty much exclusively the last few years.  I just finished THe First Law series by Joe Abercrombie.  It took me a bit to get through the first book (of 3), but the second and  third went really fast and I enjoyed them.

I am currently reading a book from the Malazan Book of the Fallen extended series.  It is Orb Septre Throne by Ian Esselmont.  I ordered it directly from AMazon UK because I could get it before it came out in the US.

After I finish that one, I will wait patiently for Esselmonts next book, or possibly read some others by Abercrombie.  I am also waiting, fairly patiently for now, for the next Wheel of Time book to come out, written by Brandon Sanderson, or the next book in his new series.

  • 1. Last book(s) read: The Court of the Air

1a. Did you enjoy it and/or would you recommend it to others? If you like sci-fi fantasy you might enjoy it, but I personally didn't love it very much, the story was long and kind of confusing because it jumped between different characters lives so often (also took me so long to read it, which probably didn't help).

    2. Book currently reading: The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (so far I'm enjoying it, it's been on my reading list for years!)

    3. Book(s) I want to read next: I have a book shelf full of books that I keep buying and need to read...nothing really of note though. I really like Christopher Buckley's books though (he wrote "Thank You for Smoking") and will probably read another one of his next.

Yeah I know with the Jaycee Dugard one will be a little hard to read going into it but it definitely interests me (I LOVE real life stories for some odd reason as well) I don't know if I would be able to finish the book (A friend told me she couldnt) but I will definitely see.

And I really liked the movie the help and my friends say the book is 10x better than the movie (which is usually true) so I am looking forward to that as well!!

  • Great thread!

    1. Last book(s) read: Divergent for fun and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for class
1a. Did you enjoy it and/or would you recommend it to others? I don't think I would have picked up Divergent if I hadn't first found the Hunger Games (and liked it) even though it is so popular. But I did like it, in spite of the violence. I like that Tris is a little introspective, although I think the backstory and overall "mythos" is underdeveloped. Maybe that is coming in the next book? And Huck Finn was not exactly enjoyable to read but was interesting to discuss in class.
    2. Currently reading Tina Fey's Bossypants for fun and The Catcher in the Rye for class
    3. Next up will probably be The Fault in Our Stars and/or Little Princes

Thanks! I wanted to post something fun and interesting and see what others are reading or like to read =)

LOL See I never heard of Divergent (which I am reading right now) until I finished the HG and was looking for something else similiar since I loved it. I am liking it but I can agree with you on the 'undeveloped'. I am at a really good part in the book but I also think I am near the end so it kinda is making me sad as I HATE waiting for books to come out (Patience isn't always my strong suit haha)

Oh and Bossypants is in the middle of my 'list'. How are you finding it?

  • Ok so my recent and current reads have a lot of work related things in them, and I am a Rangeland Management nerd, but some of the leadership ones may be interesting to you.

Just finished "A Time to Change" by Chip Hines - range nerd one on grazing management and high inputs in the cattle industry.
Before that it was i think called "the Kaisen Way" - was for my leadership class, but it talks about how making smaller changes actually works better and even applies it to things like losing weight, because big changes trigger fight or flight response subconciously, and can actually make us opposed to the big change whether we realize it or not.  (was actually kinda working on the losing weight thing until i busted my ankle last week and have been much more stationary)

Current reads - A place called Baca  by Ike Osteen- This is the one I am reading at home a book written by a local author who lived during the dustbowl in the heart of the dust bowl
For the Love of the Land by Jim Howell - This is the one I am working on in my spare time at work its another range nerd grazing management one

For my leadership class I am supposed to be starting Tribes, but not sure I can comprehend 3 at once, or find time for 3 at once

If you are looking for one i really reccomend.... The Outlander series by Diana Gabeldon is probably my favorite of any of my recent reads.  Fairly accurate historical infomation, thrown in with some time travel/romance/drunken scotsman for good measure type stuff, I enjoyed it, and theres a lot of them so the series can keep you occupied for a while if you want it to.  The first book starts a bit slow and strange, but I thought it was worth it.

I've read it multiple times, it is hilarious. To be fair, though, I think it's funnier if you are familiar with Tina Fey and really funny if you watch 30 Rock. I finished "If You Were Here" by Jen Lancaster and highly recommend all of her books. "Such A Pretty Fat" was the first one I read and I have been hooked. I love biographies a lot, and Antonia Fraser's "Must You Go" is fantastic. I also love certain kinds of psychological thrillers and I love Val McDermid's Tony Hill novels.

  • Ok, i read biographies almost exclusively (and the Harry Potter and Twilight series).  Some of my favorite biographies are:

Always Look Up by Michael J. Fox (very touching story)
Lucky Man by Michael J. Fox (gets more into his charity)
My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands by Chelsea Handler
Are you There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea? by Chelsea Handler
Chelsea, Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler----I almost pee my pants when reading her books
My First Five Husbands..And the Ones that Got Away by Rue McClanahan--Golden Girl and very funny
    Stori Telling by Tori Spelling
    Mommyhood by Tori Spelling

I just took Jaycee Dugard book from the library but I have been afraid to read it cause I know I'm going to get sucked in and cry!

Interesting. I think I have only read one biograhphy before but I never realized how many were out there. Now it looks like I am adding a bunch to my 'must read' list lol

I started A Stolen Life last night (since I just finished Divergent - LOVED it!). I can't wait to get into it some more on lunch. If it starts to make me cry or anything at work I'm switiching to The Help that I also downloaded to my ereader)
