Is this annoying anyone else?

I've noticed an influx of knotties lately responding to threads that are weeks, months, or even almost a year old.

Do they not check the date stamps before responding?  Or does it never cross their mind that if they have to go back more than a page or two to find a thread it's probably old and dead?

I sort by most recent post, not most recent reply- so I didn't even notice! Now I'll have to look, lol.

Ohh, I sort by most recently reply!

It's definitely been happening more frequently the past week or so.

Yeah, it pisses me off. Why would anyone check a post from February if they don't see it come up? By that time, no one cares what you think anymore.

I sort by most recent reply too.
I think a lot of people are doing searches on venues / vendors they are interested in... which is pretty much what we tell them to do before asking a question thats all ready been asked a million times.. and they end up having more specific questions / comments.
Doesn't bother me. Like I said, it bothers me more seeing 12,500 posts asking  how The Manor is,

It doesn't bother me unless it is a marder situation (bumping 900 old threads to promote a business).  But I do find it highly odd.  How do they find these threads?  And I feel bad when they take the time to write a thoughtful response when it is not going to help the person who asked the question (because that person must have figured out whatever they were trying to figure out six months ago).

I am an avid chowhound.com reader though, and threads there can go on for years, so I guess I'm kind of used ot it.

Doesn't annoy me at all. At most message boards I'm on, newbies will get banned and humiliated for not using the search function to look for an existing topic, or for creating a post to introduce themselves.
  • edited December 2011
They are searching for topics which is a step in the right direction.  People should search before asking the same question that has been asked and discussed 345,987,345,938 times already.  A forum should maintain old posts and work as a database of knowledge.  That is how 99.99999% of other message boards work that run vbulletin.  The search fuction here is really bad though, which is surprising due to the size of the knot member base, but that is the another topic for another day.

Usually, people browse old threads but don't bring them back from the dead unless something they were looking for wasn't completely answered.  On a lot of boards, newbies are bashed for asking the same question  (or "reposting" news or a topic) that was asked a week ago,etc and are urged to use the search function.

So perhaps they are used to that forum culture.

    Need I say more...

I wouldn't even waste my time getting annoyed at something like this...who cares!!!!!!

If someone wants to reply to a thread then why not..they may not get an answer if it is an older thread, but why should they not be able to.  It is better than them posting the same thing that was already posted a million times!!!!

No need for excessive exclamation points... I get your point.  I'm  not saying they shouldn't do it, I'm just saying it annoys me and I was curious if it was annoying anyone else.  They have the right to respond to any thread they want just as I have the right to be annoyed by those individuals who can't read a date stamp and are answering questions on threads that were asked a year ago.

<font color="#008080">Why do you think they can't read a date stamp?
A lot of the things people talk about are still *relevant* even if they are a year old.... Band vs. DJ? A venue being nice? Number of bridesmaids?
Like I said before, its way more annoying to see a zillion posts asking the same thing. I am glad people are smart enough to search and see if a question of theirs has all ready been asked.</font>

Because the recent posts are often <u>responses</u> to <u>questions</u> that were asked months ago.  I'm pretty sure that, for example, someone who had a question 5 months ago about whether the napkins at a venue are pink or purple already has her answer.

And, to be honest, repetitive <u>new</u> threads about DJ vs. band or hair/makeup suggestions or whatever actually don't bother me, because a lot of times over the course of a year the responses will change.  A DJ who was recommended a ton 7 months ago could have recently become a flake (so the responses to a thread from 7 months ago about a particular DJ could be null and void now and therefore bringing back an old thread could be counter-productive).

And that's fine with me whether that's the case or not.  It doesn't matter to me if I share an opinion with the majority or not.
