anyone honeymooned in Turks & Caicos?

We are considering Turks & Caicos for our honeymoon and wondering if anyone has any feedback?  We've been looking at Seven Stars resort, as well as Grace Bay Club.  They both have great reviews on Trip Advisor and look beautiful, but I'm wondering if there is any nightlife at all?  We definitely want a relaxing honeymoon and by no means are looking for a party atmosphere, but we'd like a place with nice restaurants, a few bars/lounges to have a few drinks, maybe even a casino for a night of gambling.  I'd appreciate any thoughts from anyone who has been there.  Thanks!

Re: anyone honeymooned in Turks & Caicos?

  • Hi! FI and I are actually going to Turks and Caicos for our HM in  July. I just thought I would share some of what we know about the island. From reviews I've read on TripAdvisor and Expedia, it seems like TCI doesn't have a real party atmosphere. It sounds like it's pretty quiet at night. I do know there is a casino in Provo that you can take a taxi to. Also, there aren't as many excursions as other islands, but we are thinking of taking a day trip to go snorkeling, etc. I think if you are looking for a relaxing HM like us, you will enjoy TCI. We really just wanted to be on an amazing beach and not rent a car and travel all over the place.

The Seven Stars resort looks AMAZING. We booked at the Sands to save money, but Costco Travel has a decent deal for the Seven Stars. I am really looking forward to making our way over the Seven Stars for drinks and hopefully dinner. The resort has a really nice outdoor lounge/bar area.

From what I've read, the restaurants sound really good in Provo! When we get closer to July, I plan on researching the restaurants on TripAdvisor and making a list of places to try. There are also I believe two grocery stores on the island that are accessible to Grace Bay Beach and would be good for stocking up on wine, beer, breakfast food, etc. It seems like every hotel room has at least a kitchenette so you can make a few things in your room if you don't want to eat out for every meal.

    HTH!

  • I don't have any direct feedback on T&C, but we did originially consider it for our honeymoon. The beaches looked amazing and super peaceful. However, it was really expensive (particularly restaurants and groceries) and it didn't look like there was that much to do on the island- almost too peaceful. Like you, we aren't necessarily big party people, but wanted the option of something to do in the evenings, and T&C didn't seem to have much in that department.

We realized that we could get a lot more bang for our buck in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico. We stayed at The Royal Playa del Carmen, which is located right in PDC. It was the best of both worlds: amazing white sand beaches and turquoise waters AND the popular 5th Avenue shopping/nightlife area just blocks away. We walked around there almost every evening after dinner and it was so nice to get out of the resort and expericence some of the local culture. Just my two cents...

  • We didn't honeymoon in T&C but went there for vacation this February.  We loved it!  There is not a ton of nightlife but there are great restaurants and plenty of bars/lounges but they are just not a crazy party scene.  We didn't make it to Seven Stars but we did go to Anacaona at the Grace Bay Club for drinks before dinner one night and it was a really cool spot.  We stayed at the Gansevoort which is a really nice hotel and much smaller than GBC.  We loved the Gansevoort and it would be a great honeymoon hotel as there are very few children there.  There is a casino close to GBC but we didn't go so I'm not sure what it was like.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

My FI just got back from TCI in February (not honeymoon, just vacation). We stayed at Ocean Club West, which is next door to Seven Stars - - both resorts are in a great location and they are on an amazing stretch of beach.  The Seven Stars resort looked really nice (from the beach, we didn't explore the resort).

Also, most of the resorts in that area of TCI are condo-resorts, meaning you are staying in a condo with a kitchen.  They still have hotel amenities (housekeeping, etc) but you have a full size fridge, etc. (at least at Ocean Club West).   There is a really nice (but expensive) grocery store within easy walking distance (5 min.) from these resorts.  We went there and stocked up on wine, beer, stuff for breakfast, snacks, etc.  We would sleep late, make a lazy breakfast, then hit the beach.  We splurged and went out to nice dinners.  We did thi to save money, but also because we don't minding cooking lazy breakfast when on vacation.

Our favorite restaurants were Bay Bistro (request a table out on the beach - super romantic), CoCo Bistro, and Caicos Cafe.  Also, across the street from the resort is an amazing bakery called Caicos Bakery, which is run by some French ex-pats who make AMAZING croisants, quiche, etc. Really amazing stuff.

The island doesn't have a big nightlife scene, but it does have amazing restaurants and an incredible beach.  We would go out to dinner, then go sit on the beach or on our balcony with another bottle of wine. Very low key, but that is what we were looking for on vacation.   I'm happy to answer any questions you have!

  • I am also looking into T&C for ouy honeymoon. Ladies that have been there, did you do other excursions like snorkeling or anything else adventerous? We are definitely looking to relax and just cruise at the beach, but we are also looking for things that we can't do here in the city. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

DH and I had a wonderful trip to Turks and Caicos a couple of years ago.  We stayed at Grace Bay Club.  It is a fabulous resort.  The staff is absolutely fantastic and the resort itself is just gorgeous!

We went to a different (nice) restaurant every night.  The key, we found, was in asking a local (our cab driver).  He turned us on to the best places!

DH and I have been to several islands in the Caribbean.  The best sand (feels like baby powder) and swimming, by far, are in Turks and Caicos.  Go for it!
  • Great, thanks so much for all the feedback....it's very helpful!
  • I heard the Beaches on T&C has a fun dance club. It is one of the quieter islands--but with some of the best beaches I'm told.
  • I Have been to Turks and Cacios on a 'girls trip' 3 times because it is SO GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is NO PARTY ATMOSPHERE AT ALL! if you want to drink/ party etc. go to the bahamas or another island . Almost all hotels / grocery on the island stop serving alcohol at 10 pm or 12 pm. My girlfrined loves her wine and went to the grocery during the day just to have it at night. (excluding dinner) .

EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. We have stayed at The Regent Palms twice and then we tried Club Med all inclusive.  Each dinner we had (you have to make reservations to go to another resort to have dinner...very upscale , Im a vegetarian so i might not be the best person to ask about the food but everyone raved about it. Im extremely cheap and was shocked at our 4 person $500 dollar tab every night. NOT with heavy drinking)

I can inlude pictures if you want, the beaches are literatly the most beautiful beaches in the caribbean, I think , but im biased Ive been there three times instead of exploring other islands.

I will say, its 90% couples. We were the only chicks there hanging out and tanning alone. It was very quiet and secluded...which I liked.
  • about to land

you can walk down the island past all the hotels and it turns into residences but there are long strips of deserted beach...its really so gorgeous. We went on a walk every night and collected sea shells ;)

  • Conch shell tour (HIGHLY RECCOMENDED ) Completely quiet island.

Water is so clear and blue!

  • I am way late to this, but whatever. We honeymooned there last October. We staed at the Villa Renaissance which was a beautiful but quiet resort. I would recommend looking into VRBO.com to get better prices on the accomodations. We also walked to the grocery store (yes, it is expensive) for liquor and food.

Ate at Coco Bistro and it was just amazing. I would also recommend Las Brisas restaurant by Chalk Sound- great great views.

FWIW, I have also been to Aruba, and they have some beautiful beaches. I would actually rate Grace Bay beach as better though. You can swim out a little ways, and it you can still easily see all the way to the bottom at 30 feet depth- super clear.
