Have never been on one, but we booked one on Carnival for our honeymoon.  Lots of my friends have gone, and absolutely loved it.  The only bad reviews I have heard were of Princess (I think).  Lots of good reviews for Norwegian.  Unknown for Carnival, but we will see.  We picked them because we really wanted to go to Skagway and they stop there during the time when we want to go.

We are going on Norwegian the end of July as they had the best prices and dates.  I have heard both positive and negative about all the lines.  One thing I know Norwegian does is anytime dining where you aren't assigned a table and time (though some places to eat need reservations).  Our cruise is also all inclusive so food, unless we go specialty places, are included.

my FILs have been on an alaskan cruise with Royal Carribbean and out of the 23 cruises they've been on, that itinerary was their fave.  I've been on Royal Carribbean and Celebrity and heartily enjoyed both.  Fiance's family has been on all of them, and they said they probably wouldn't do Princess again, nor would they do Carnival.  They felt carnival was was a little too party-ship young people for them (this is coming from FI's 29 year old sister).  so it all just depends on what you're looking for :)

I think most cruise lines now have the Anytime Dining and everything is all inclusive (except alcohol  and some beverages and specialty restaurants)

we did an alskan cruise for a family trip with norweigian and i really liked it. my picky-as-heck parents felt like they liked the royal caribbean cruise better, but that's because we had a bigger ship when we did that one. my first-time-cruisers-inlaws absolutely loved it.. my h and i felt like it was prefect for the price we paid (could've been better, but we paid dirt cheap fares).

My fiance and I run a private charter boat in Alaska during the summer cruising season, so we are really familiar with the ships. The ships we always hear are the best, contrary to everyones comments (sorry!) are actually Princess ships especially the Diamond Princess. Also, the Norwegian cruise line look like they do a pretty great job as well. I would highly reccomend a cruise line that stops in Sitka,as it is one of the most beautiful ports of call in Alaska. Skip any that stop in Hoonah (there is absolutley nothing to see besides an old cannery). If you want any other info lke great restaraunts, or excursions feel free to message me.
