Well when we went to register at BB&B we had the District Manager actually register everything with us.  Seriously we were there for over 4 hours.  I was irritated but FI loved it because he loves to ask questions and talk.  I will give her her props because she was very very knowledgeable on everything - because FI asked questions on everything.

But anyway when we got to knives we got a demonstration and everything.  In her opinion she said the best knives were Wusthof.

    A little long but HTH!

We are registered for a set of Wusthof. I've read great things about them, and we liked them at the store. We went for a less expensive (in the grand scheme of knives...)- 8 piece $300 set, because that is the max price range for things we wanted on the registry (and it's still a huge upgrade from the knives we have now!).

Someday I would like to own a REALLY nice set of knives, but I just can't justify spending that much on it now, or putting something $800+ on the registry, beause I know none of our family or friends would buy it!

Cutco is the absolute best. I WISH I had enough money to get them. We registered at Williams-Sonoma and registered for Shun knives, they're Japanese. German knives are just so-so in my opinion. They dull very easily (if you cook a lot) and home sharpeners don't work very well on them, in my opinion. All you really need is one good Chef's/Santoku knife, one parring knife and a bread knife. I'm a huge cooker and those are the only one's I ever need. I like my Japanese one's, they've held up very well. I have some Kitchen Aid and Cuisinart knives and they're basically my junk knives, so I'd stay away from them.

We received a Henckels set, which I love!!!  We also received a cutco carving knife and it's freakin' awesome too!
