So I met with our Rabbi this afternoon... And he declined to co-officiate our ceremony.
He wasn't unkind or judgmental about it, he simply said that he does not co-officiate with non-Jewish clergy (FI's uncle is an ordained Protestant Minister and he has his heart set on officiating, but has agreed to duel officiants to represent my Jewish faith). Apparently he supports our marriage and has no misgivings about interfaith couples and families (we attend a liberal Reform synagogue) but as a Rabbi, he does not co-officiate. I'm a little unclear as to if that meant he doesn't perform interfaith ceremonies at all or if he just meant that he only officiates if it's just him... which I would think means it would be a be a Jewish ceremony, not interfaith.
Anyway, I'm disappointed. I really wanted the Rabbi that I've been getting to know and attending services of for the last year would be open to officiating. I called FI right after the meeting and he was bummed out too. We've been referred to a few other Rabbis who may be willing, but it's just not going to be the same
