Would it be tacky if...

Ok my FI and I are on a tight budget, like most, but so far we have been able to find great deals on everything but my make up. I have been looking everywhere for make up artists because I want to look my best on my wedding day. Normally my idea of make up is eye liner and mascara, I honestly dont know how to do a smokey eye or shaded eye or anything that requires more then one shade of a color lol I wanted to get someone to do my make up to ensure that it was done right and I looked beautiful walking down the isle. I recently took my little sister and her friend to the mall and her friend wanted to get her make up done at JCPennys. I thought she was crazy to pay someone to do her make up just because but she told me that a friend of hers told her it was free. So we all went over to the make department and watched her get her make up done and she looked great. She is only 16 and the make up artist (Erica) made her look wonderful without making her look older. Me being a very curious person I asked Erica what the catch was and she told me that there is no big catch. They do full make up sessions with whatever make up you would like to try for free but they would like it if you bought something. My sisters friend automatically got that deer in headlights look and Erica smiled and told her not to worry she didnt have to buy anything but if she wanted to she could just buy the lipgloss. Of course she did and I bought some too. Erica then told me that her and the other associates have had wedding parties in to have their make up done and if I wanted to do it with mine I just needed to make the appointment a week in advance. Initially I thought was great but the more I think about it the more it seems weird for me to go in there with 6 girls and myself. So I am asking for your input. Would it be tacky if my Bridesmaids and I got our make up done at JCPenny? And if we did what is the "proper" amount to spend per person?

I've heard of people going to the Clinique counter at a department store before... but I guess it depends on how much you'd have to spend...

Me and my bridal party went to the clinique counter for my first wedding. We were only required to purchase one item each, I think we each spent like $15

Who cares if people think it's tacky or not? Imagine how fun it will be to go to the mall in your bride and bridesmaid tees and have some girl time! You don't all have to be hovering over the counter at once either. Some could go get breakfast and coffee while others were getting their makeup done. I'd do it!

Thank you all for your thoughts. I guess I was just over thinking it. My FI brothers wife gave me a horrible look when I mentioned it to her so I needed some other opinions. Sweetie1184, $15 sounds a lot better then the $50 to $100 I have been quoted per person. Now I just need to find someone to do our hair Money mouth lol

My girls & I are getting our makeup done at MAC. The makeup session is free but you do have to buy $50 worth of MAC products...at least you are buying something you will use again. :)

I think it sounds like a great idea and definitely something other brides have done. A lot of those pricey makeup items are good investments, so you could buy something that you could use to touch up your make up later in the day yourself, like powder and lipgloss or something.

It sounds quite reasonable and if you know they do a good job, I wouldn't be afraid of it being tacky.  My makeup artist will do each of my bridesmaids for $50 each but they don't get anything to take home with them for that price (so I think only a couple of them will be using her).
