Mail Merger

To those ladies who printed the addresses straight on their envelopes, did you use mail merger?  I am trying to get my spreadsheet ready so when I get my invites, this will go fast.  My question is, did you set up different spreadsheets for married and unmarried couples?  I started by creating a Line 1 with 2 first name cells and one last name, the a second line first and second name, with the thought that married couples would be printed on the same line, and non-married couples (or kids) would be printed across 2 lines.....however I don't want a gap between the married names & their address because those "second line" cells would be blank.  I'm sure my explaination is rather confusing, as I haven't had my coffee yet!  What did you ladies do?

I just did it in word. I measured my envelope and where I wanted the address to be and then set my margins accordingly. Like if it was 2 inches in from the left side of the envelope to make them center I made the margin 2 inches on that side. It worked well for me, but I hope this makes sense to you! Lol Edit: oh and you need to print with the flap extended! So for the top margin you would measure the flap and add how many inches it is to center the address.

  • I did the mail merge with just one spreadsheet, and then I went into the word doc and adjusted the font size for some of the married couples that were going on to two lines.

This is what I did.  I used mail merger for the STDs and I thought it was a pain, but doing it one by one in word will take a bit of time.
  • FI set up the mail merge...I'm not exactly sure what he did. We're Mac users, so it could be different. We still had to feed 1 envelope at a time though...multiple envelopes at a time cause major envelope feed problems.

  • I bought a new printer about 6 months ago because my really expensive one was a nightmare, this one was quite a bit cheaper and a dream to work with.  I haven't had any issues printing envelopes.  I set it up as a custom size in my mail merge and did as PP did and only did one excel sheet and then adjusted it in the word doc as well as sizing and spacing and font style.  I also ended up printing my return address on the back of the envelope too.  I had bought return address self inking stamp but it doesn't come out that nice but printing worked out beautifully.  I didn't need to leave the flap up on mine it, I just put a few envelopes in at a time and when the pile would go down I would squeeze some more in.  Make sure you also adjust your printer tray size down to the envelope size.
