Plated and stations help

So im having a sit down dinner but i have been seeing alot of people doing grilled chesse stations, mini hamburgers, pasta station or even a late night snack food item.

What do you guys think? Has anyone done that?

Re: Plated and stations help

  • Depends on your budget.  I personally dislike comfort food (sliders, pigs in a blanket, grilled cheese and tomato soup) at weddings, but that's my personal preference.  If it's in your budget to add a station, go for it.  But I would either do it as an appetizer station or a dessert station.  I don't think anyone would use the station during a plated dinner.  I would also keep it lighter (not a heavy carb like pasta) - maybe a carving station/raw bar/sushi station as an app or a sundae station for dessert.
  • I think it's a great idea if you have the budget for it.

You can also do it for your cocktail hour.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I agree with pp, I think its a great idea if you have the budget for it.  I have a huge sweet tooth so I'm always happy when there is a vienesse table or a late night dessert bar, like cookies and milk, smores bar, ice cream sundaes, etc.  I also was at a wedding where they had pizza at the end of the night and that was a hit.
  • I'd think it would be better for cocktail hour, dessert, or late night, not dinner if you have a plated meal.  For cocktail hour we're doing a sushi bar and a mashed potato bar.
