Different Photog for Engagement and Wedding?

So we are planning on having our wedding in Northern CA, but we are living in Southern CA, and will be at least until the wedding. I want to get engagement photos done, but am wondering - do I have to use the same photographer I use for my wedding? We would have our engagement shoot down here. I know a lot of photogs travel for weddings, but I don't want to have to pay extra for travel costs. Would it be weird if I had one photog do our engagement shoot, and a different one for our wedding day?? Thanks!!

Do it with 2 different photographers with the same style. No one will be offended if you do this. I did 2 engagement shoots, one with a different photographer and then one with the one I hired.

I would try to go with the same one if you can! It totally helps you to feel comfortable with the photographer you'll be spending your entire wedding day with, it'll make your wedding photos that much better.

Not at all!  We are having two different photographers for two different reasons.  1) We live in a different state than where are getting married and we would like some pictures taken where we live now. 2) The photographer we chosen for our wedding does very traditional type pictures and we wanted some fun, artistic pictures for our engagement shoot.

We used a different photographer. Engagement pics done by an old friend who is just starting out her business and hasn't done a wedding yet. My mom requested a more seasoned professional for wedding, which was fine by me. I told new photographer that we already had engagement pics done and asked whst they would do instead, so we are getting an additional parent book. Just ask! Overall no, not weird at all.

see if the first photographer can make an exception and offer some kind of discount if you went with him. Tell him nicely. I'm sure he will work it out. I know I would :) plus it doesnt hurt and atleast you tried.

not at all! I know a lot of people that are doing that. It absolutely makes sense if you're living in another part of the state than your actual wedding.

He took my e-pics and he did a FABULOUS job. Our pictures are now going to be on shared on Style Me Pretty's Facebook! He submitted them and they accepted! I just found out yesterday.
