alterations freak out!

So my dress doesn't fit hasn't fit and I'm scared it won't fit. I'm SO angry at my bridal shop for misleading me! Now my alterations will prob be MORE than the dress! So I had her let it out and I swear there was NO CHANGE! It still didn't come any closer to zipping! So since it came with a shawl...we decided to remove the zipper let her add that fabric in and readd the zipper. Its probably going to ruin the look of the back of my dress but I have no choice! The dress has to be wearable. My dress has ruching all the way around and this V she is adding won't! I'm stressed to the max about my dream dress and ruining it because the stupid bridal shop simply lifted it above my hips to zip and pretended everything was PERFECT!

Re: alterations freak out!

  • Can you change to a corset back instead of a zipper? Those usually have more forgiveness than a zipper. I have no idea what the charge on that would be. If you're able, I would recommend getting your dress out of that bridal shop and taking it to a reputable independent seamstress in your area. They usually have better pricing. I'm sure the ladies on the Atlanta board would have good recommendations.

I'm sorry your bridal shop deceived you in this manner.

I agree with all of this. I'd take it somewhere else, and ask about a corset. Sorry you're going through this. I had to get my dress let out but thankfully it worked out.

  • I agree with the other girls... get it out of there if you can

POOR YOU omgosh I would freak right out...

and I would not pay full price for the alterations, espeically if they are the ones that screwed it up in the first place by misleading you....
but I know that is easier said than done :(
  • I agree with erica's post. A corset back is beautiful and hopefully wouldn't ruin the look of the dress that you love. I had my dress altered by an independent seamstress and had a great experience and price. I have also heard others say they preferred independent seamstresses.

  • Just to add here....the bridal salon was over an hour and a half away so when I picked it up I brought it home to a local seamstress. AND its already a corset back. The bottom part does have about a 3 inch zipper where my butt is though and that's what won't zip. I suggested just taking the zipper out and extending the corset and adding a privacy piece but she insisted that we do it this way with the extra fabric....

  • I was going to suggest corset too but apparently its not really an option. Can they let it out any more?

  • Just got a call from the seamstress. She is going to extend the corset down. So let's just all pray this works! She said she found online where she could order the loops already made and so she went ahead and did that before she called...

  • Extending the corset back seems to be a much better option. Just try not to freak out too much (because there is nothing you can do to help the situation right now) and I'm sure it will all work out ok. I'm sorry you are going through this.

But did they mislead you because they ordered the dress per your measurements and it doesn't fit? Or did you order down a size and they assured you it should work???

Good luck! Try not to freak out about it too much!

That sucks! I certainly hope this doesn't happen for me too since we sized mine based on my hips (which was a size up from the others). I hope your seamstress does wonders!! I bet when she corsets further down it will work out.
