After cardio food?

What do you guys normally eat/recommend to eat after an evening cardio workout?

Re: After cardio food?

  • Assuming I've already had dinner:

    *A spoon of peanut butter
    *greek yogurt with fruit
*a couple slices of summer sausage or a beef stick
    *a glass of chocolate milk
    *Juice and fruit.
  • Typically a protein/carb combo is best.  But really, it depends on your workout.  If you went at it balls out, dripping sweat, energy gone, then yes, you definitely need some protein and carbs to refuel and recover.  But if you just did an easy 30 minutes on the elliptical or something, then unless you're hungry, you don't really NEED to refuel for that unless you've not eaten enough calories yet that day.

  • Some form of easily digestable protein, like egg whites, chicken, or salmon, and a starchy vegetable like butternut squash, pumpkin, or sweet potato.
  • Small glass of lowfat chocolate milk if it's after dinner and right before bed.  If it's for dinner, a healthy veggie chili or chicken with brown rice.

Honestly after a workout that's more intense or if I know I won't be eating within an hour after, I take a protein shake.  I have lean protein, whey and it is awesome.  Otherwise I won't eat anything.  I always eat an apple within the hour first, to give me fast energy.
  • Lowfat chocolate milk has awesome carb/protein ratio.

<div>Yup, it's awesome for a post-workout. I usually work out in the mornings, so the specific food I eat is bfast (eggs, oatmeal), not evening food like you're asking about, but I go for a 50/50 protein/carb ratio. I actually do this for all of my meals & snacks. </div>
