International Gift Registry -- SOS!

Hello everyone!

I am getting married in less than four months. My fiance is from one country, I am from a second country and we both live in the US! Guess this is not unusual these days. The thing is we are getting married in my country (beautiful destination wedding!). I do not want to do envelopes (which would be the easiest thing) 'cause I do not like the idea of asking people for money and I really want to do the whole registry process -- I think is excinting and part of it all! --. I do not mind about the invitees from the US since they would find it easy and their credit cards will be easily accepted, but the foreing invitees will have to call or send a fax and go through a lot in order to buy a gift. I heard there are some wedding registries that accept international credit cards. Anybody knows about this and can actually help me out??? Any other suggestions are very welcome. THANKS!

Re: International Gift Registry -- SOS!

  • Not sure what you mean by "doing envelopes," but for international registries i would start by looking at the stores that your relatives shop at in those countries. is there some big department store where your relatives shop online?

  • I'm pretty sure almost everywhere accepts mastercard, visa and AMEX so I'm not sure what you mean by "international credit cards."  If you do have a registry, you can always ask that people just ship gifts to your home.  That seems like the easiest solution for an international wedding and it works for both monetary and non-monetary gifts.
  • I guess it was not very clear, sorry!
International credit cards, meaning that the billing address is not from the US and will not be accepted event hough they are AMEX, Master or Visa. That is the reason why they should have to call to the store and do the whole process and I guess it is a little bit too much tu have everyone doing it!

I could definately do a registry in any of our countries but what I do not want is to have them make international shipping and/or paying a lot extra to send the gifts, us, paying a lot to bring them back.

    Thanks!

I think that at most of the larger stores you can order onlone with an internationsl credit card as long as the shipping address is in the US. That's for US based companies though, have you looked into Amazon, and creating a registry through there. I believe they ship internationally, so it might be easier for your guests.

Edit: I checked Amazon, and they are international friendly, so you might be able to go that route.

  • I would do a universal wish list such as myregistry.com. It allows you to add any item from any store in the world so you could add local items or items from abroad. You can even register for a cash gift fund which is what attracted us to open an accoun there. hope that helps!

we have the same problem and used myregistry.com.  we "registered" for gifts at lots of different stores, in many different countries in lots of different price ranges.  We also gave a shipping address in the states and one in Canada if they wanted to purchase something from an American or Canadian store without paying for international shipping.  It was the easiest thing for everyone, I think.

Also, we figured if anyone gets too confused with it, they'll probablyjust give cash.

  • We have the same problem. i can't tell you how annoyed I was to find out that some of these large international stores don't do international registires. We opted for amazon, and crate & barrel. I know for the UK you won't get taxed on wedding presents. So you might want to look at that before you actually move.
  • Have you checked out Zankyou wedding registry? My cousin and her French husband used that site because they could get gifts from American and French guests as well as having bilingual language settings. I guess it worked out really well for them and their guests.
