When should I secure my florist?

I am not getting married until 9/2012...when should I secure my florist? Is now too early? Or would it be OK to wait a few months? Do florists typically work multiple weddings in a weekend or is it one wedding per weekend, so I should book early? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!

I booked mine 4 months out. I talked to 4 florists and only 1 said they had another wedding my weekend and couldn't do my wedding (AW Florist).

I booked mine about 8 months out and that was more than enough time. I honestly wish I had waited a bit longer, I ended up changing my mind. I think most florists do more than one wedding at a time so I would say there is no rush. Secure your venue and church first (if you haven't already) and then you'll have a better sense of what your floral needs will be.

My wedding is in October 2012.  I went to a bridal show in March and the florist there told me that she was already booked for October 2011 weddings.  So....I wouldn't wait TOO long, but I suppose it depends what time of year your wedding is.  She did have a good idea, though - she recomended to me that I come into the shop in October 2011 and look at the flowers that she typically does for weddings at that time of year.  That way I can get an idea of what I may want to do.  Good luck with your planning!

I booked mine about 11 months out. When I was looking many of the places told me I had plenty of time. One florist even told me to not contact them until I had placed the order for my bridesmaids dress so they could see a sample.

not that you should use me as an example, but i "booked" mine about a month out! never got a contract... the girl i met with had made one and the next person i spoke with couldn't find it cuz there were all these issues with their system. A week before the wedding i was like ok, so there WILL be flowers at my wedding on Saturday right?? and then the aisle runner broke LOL

My aunt owns a florist and we have had people book out up to 18 months in advance.... def. do not book until you see a few and compare quality/prices as soon as you see work/prices that you cant pass up lock it in. Most florists will not require a deposit until the 3/4 month mark when they are gettign ready to order stuff for your party... good luck

My cousin booked hers about 9 months out because she wanted to try out centerpieces at their engagement party, but when she booked them the florist told her she didn't need to until 3 or 4 months later. I'm getting married next May and will probably start locking it in around November. I also wanted to wait until after bridesmaid dresses were decided on, just in case anything changed.

We booked ours 2 weeks ago for our November wedding so like 4 1/2 months out. Most people didn't have our date booked but i was glad to get an idea of what I was looking at cost wise.

I would say wait a little simply because of a case like nonchalance...at the end of the day you never know and if they have your deposit SO far ahead and something happens you will have a greater chance of losing it. Definitely start to shop around though :)

Honestly, you should book as soon as you find one that you want to use. I booked mine a year out and I'm so glad I did because she told me that right after I booked, she received multiple requests for my date!
