Good 1 night 2 day trip destination?

I'm thinking about planning a short surprise trip for DH and I for the week after Christmas. He gets off work at 8 a.m. on Monday and goes back at 12 a.m. Wednesday night, so we'd need to go someplace pretty close.

Does anyone have any suggestions of places that would be fun for just a few days?

Thanks : )

About a year and half ago FI and went to Granbury for one night. It was really fun. We drove down Saturday and visited Dinosaur Valley State Park then checked into our B&B and had dinner, walked around the square and saw a movie. Sunday we had breakfast and went to Fossil Rim Nature Preserve before driving home. We enjoyed it!

You could go to Oklahoma City.  They have a nice art museum, a fun downtown area (Bricktown area) and some good restaurants.  It's about 2 1/2 hours or so from here.

    I ditto Granbury.  100%.

Also I recommend a cabin at Beaver's Bend, some of them are very nice and romantic.  (and also cheaper in the winter time)

Mmh... if you guys like to gamble, Shreveport may be an option.

We did a weekend trip around the Fredericksburg area in the summer.  We primarily enjoyed wine tasting, but it was fun to walk around the town and look at the cute shops.

I was reading a post on the NBC DFW iphone app (maybe it's on their website, too), about staycations.  I remember one of the hotel suggestions was a romantic one in Granbury - seems like that would be a good option.

Have you thought about Glen Rose?  My aunt and uncle own cabins there off the Paluxy River.  They are not busy during the week, which would be good for you.  It is more of a relaxing atmosphere if you and the hubby are looking into a casual, decompress trip.  If you are looking for nightlife, etc. this is probably not your place, just fyi.  If I am not mistaken, you can't put advertisements on here.  Email me at ewellstcu1999@yahoo.com if you are interested in checking the website out.

I agree with OKC.. however I have to diagree with only being 2.5 hrs. I grew up there and still drive back frequently (my dad lives there still) It's about 3- 3.5hrs. Depending on what part of DFW you live in, it could be more like 4hrs.

I'd def. check out bricktown, and go on the river walk (think SanAntonio, jut not as big)
