Our vunue cancelled with 40 days to go

Yesterday my fiance and I got a call from our venue in Tampa, FL letting us know that they were double booked. We now have no venue and are stressing big time. If anyone has any ideas please let us know. We are getting married in the church so we just need a reception site. We also are not wanting an outdoor reception. We would prefer something elegant or different than your normal ballroom becuase we have no draping. It was not needed at the previous location therefore we didnt budget for it. Our cancelled location is doing everything they can to help us out with finding a new place but I figured the more people that are aware of the situation, the more ideas we would have. Thanks in advance for any help and I am sorry if I didn't give enough details but I am a guy and am just trying my best lol.

You might want to post this on the Florida board.  More people will be able to help you find something there.

The Bilmar Resort. Call and talk to Eric Audit, the Sales and Catering Manager. They have a restaurant that opens onto the beach, so you can see the outside through their big sliding doors, without actually being there. Not sure how many people you have or what your budget is, but just a thought. The inside is a little tropical looking (the paintings on the walls), but I am sure you can work with it.

They really cancelled on you 40 days out? They didn't KNOW they were double booked?! Wow. What a nightmare.

Wow, so sorry you have to deal with this.  I am temporarily residing in FL, but not that area, and don't have any site suggestions.  Try the local boards for that part of FL, or google "wedding reception venues, Blanktown, FL"

#1 priority is to find another venue asap.  If you've already sent out invitations with the reception information on them, you need to send something informing the guests of the change.  If you haven't sent invitations yet, or reception site was not shown, you can hand out reception cards at the ceremony site with the address and directions.

I would go on wedding wire, and take a day off work and just start calling.

While you are at it leave a review for the place that double booked!

I'd also read your contract to see if there is anything in there about them not being liable if they double book.  Call an attorney in your area and see if you have a breach of contract case.

Your original venue is contractually obligated to present you with at least one option of a same status venue that will honor your signed contracts and every decision in those contracts - from napkin color to salad choice.  So your best option is to go there and push them to give you this completed, contracted venue's contact information so that you can then go meet with the coordinator at that venue.

But I understand that you want to make some calls in the meantime.  There are 7 venues in your bio - have you checked all of those?

EEKS!!!  I'm an attorney...I'd be happy to look over your contract for you if you need any assistance with that!  Which venue is this??

I'm using Bayaninhan arts and events center for ceremony and reception. Give them a call and ask for Ann. So sorry to hear about what happened. Do you get your deposit back at least?

I second this place. Ann was great. I thought this place was well decorated already.  Just need to decorate the tables and you're good to go!

Yikes. We're using the Centro Asturiano in Ybor. It's a historic building, so it has great detail and doesn't need much decorating.

OH yes Amanda - I went to a wedding at Hunter's Green recently and it was VERY nice, and the bride told me it was not horribly expensive at all.

Our reception is at Isla del Sol and it's reasonably priced. It's on the water and something different from a hotel ballroom. It has large windows with a great view of the bay. It's in St. Pete.
