Getting in Shape

New Girl...

Hi Guys! I'm relatively new to The Knot...getting married August 24th of this year! Looking for some friends that want to hold eachother accountable for living a healthier lifestle and losing some weight. In the last 9 months I've gained about 30lbs (thank you, Depo shot!) and I am working right now to lose that 30lbs before the wedding. I started "clean eating" January 1st, which has mainly been no sugar, limiting carbs, and upping protein intake and I have also been working out 6 days a week since then. I weighed in last Thursday and I was down 8lbs! :) Excited to weigh in again tomorrow and see if I've made any progress!

  • You picked the perfect date! :) (That will be my first anniversary)

Come join our daily accountability threads - even if you don't get to the gym, it's still a great, supportive place to be.

Congratulations on your progress so far, it sounds like you're doing great!  What kinds of workouts are you doing at the gym?

  • Thank you! I feel so much better, too! It is incredible how much better you feel when you are exercising and eating wholesome food! I am currently meeting with a trainer twice a week - mainly doing weight lifting with her. Then the other 4 days I usually do cardio, either elliptical at a resistance of about 6, or treadmill running/walking at an incline of 12...

  • Sounds like a solid plan!  Are you using My Fitness Pal or anything?  Lots of the girls on here are connected on there, too - it's great to have support in so many outlets!

  • Welcome! Looks like you've got good things going :)

I second joining in on the accountability threads and MFP!

  • Hello!

I would second using the MyFitnessPal app if you have an iPhone. I have no clue if they have it for android phones (I'm not that "tech-y")  and I don't use it myself, but I hear that you can scan barcodes of food items that you eat and log it in quite easily!

The reason I don't use the app is because I try to eat a lot of things that don't have barcodes for me and I don't keep up well with those things, but it might be helpful for you!

  • Congrats and Welcome!!

You sound like you have an amazing plan in place! Keep it up and join the accountability thread daily... it really helps me!

  • Congrats on your progress so far!  Another great free site is sparkpeople.com.  You can track your food, your workouts, get recipes and a ton of other stuff.  I love it.

I am getting married September 15, 2013 and trying to tone up.  I eat pretty healthy (most of the time anyway lol) but I have been really slacking on the gym lately.  I am trying to get back into the grove of going 5-6 days a week.  It's been hard though with all of the wedding planning and hype going on.  The accountability threads are a great idea!!

<div>I hope you realize that you can input your own foods and it will save them under "my foods". If there is an item you're eating frequently but it's not already in the system, PUT IT IN THE SYSTEM! Also, if it's not something you eat frequently and it doesn't have a barcode, you can still do a search and probably find something remarkably similar.</div><div>
</div><div>OP - welcome to the boards, and I will once again echo that you should join in on our accountability threads.</div>

  • Thanks for all the feedback! I will join the accountability threads for sure, and I think at one time I tried using the MyFitnessPal app for iPhone, but just kind of stopped using it. I may have to re-download it and give it another try. @tee0715 - GET UP EARLY! Girl, I seriously would not get up early if my life depnded on it before I started working out...and it is so hard for me most days, but I have found that if I work out before work, I have no excuse later in the day for not going to the gym. M-F, I wake up at 5:00am (I lay my clothes out the night before - so that helps) Have a quick breakfast (usually multigrain cheerios) I'm out the door by 5:30am, at the gym by 6:00am, work out until 7:15am, get ready for work, and I am at work by 8:00am. Then I work until 5:00pm, and I also have started to love working out early, because then I do have time after work to spend with FI, or get in those mid-week errands without feeling guilty for skipping my workout. I mean, on the downside, I am in bed by 9:00pm every night, but to me it is worth it! Give it a try! Good luck!
