Need Help Planning a Traditional but Budget Wedding in Central NJ

My fiance and I are both graduate students (in a lot of debt) and my parents have offered to pay for our wedding. So my wedding budget is around $20,000. We plan on inviting 90-100 people.

Here are some things at my disposal that should stretch the budget:

- our wedding date will be in October/November 2013 (so off-season)
- we plan on using just an iPod and speakers for both ceremony and reception music
- I am ok with buying a clearance dress and sprucing it up with thrifted accessories
- my mother and aunt-in-law have experience with floral arrangements and bouquets so we will only be purchasing wholesale flowers and renting/buying-wholesale vases
- we have experience with graphic design so will be able to make & order our own invitations, placecards, save-the-dates, etc.
- my mother and I will be ordering gifts and trinkets in Taiwan where we will be able to buy intricate small gifts for less than $1 per gift

As for everything else, we are open to anythign that will fit our budget. We realize that is our biggest constraint. The wedding will be non-religious and preferably within driving distance from Brick, NJ (where my in-laws live). I know this may be kind of tough, but any ideas and any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Look into Lakewood Country Club and Eagle Ridge Golf Club (also in Lakewood), both have nice rooms, great customer service and very reasonable prices in which they will work with you on based on your budget.

  • Most places still consider October to be inseason, so if you stick to November instead prices tend to drop. Some places to look might be the Sunset Ballroom in Pt. Pleasant, Doolans and The Mill in Spring Lake, and Crystal Point Yacht Club. Good luck!

  • Our neighbors did a very diy, GORGEOUS fall wedding at the Elks club in Montgomery, right outside of Princeton.

  • I had my prom at Doolans!  lol  It was very nice.  I also agree-try Crystal Point.  What vendors are you looking for?  I have affordable photo/video.  I am using Bleu Studio in Red Bank for video and hart and sol in Brooklyn for photo, and I am under $5000 for both,

  • Most places don't consider October/November off-season....you would need to go December-March to see real discounts. I would check out Eagle Ridge Golf Club and the Ramada in Toms River (Lakewood border on Rt 9/70).

  • Hey I don't know if East Windsor is too far from you but the Windsor Ballroom has some very reasonable prices and you get a lot for what you have to pay.  I would certainly recommend looking into them. If you do go there tell them Kara and Keith recommended you, our wedding is July 13, 2013, if you say you were recommended by someone we both get discounts.
  • eagle ridge is beautiful, and we were going to book there but then i found a better deal at the windsor ballroom in east windsor. it isn't close to brick but there are i think 5 other hotels that have the same menu and all. we are actually getting more in our cocktail hour then what most people get in their dinners. theres the crystal ballroom in freehold, the versailles ballroom in toms river, atlantis ballroom in toms river and sterling ballroom in eatontown
  • You can also check out "The Hall at Jackson Crossing" ... in Jackson

I was just married and booked through Primo Events (.net), I had my reception indoor at Gran Centurion but they showed me  several outside places.  I paid about $70 a head with photos and DJ.   They work with your budget which made it great for us.

    Good luck!
