Need Help with Flowers....Wrapped Stems???? Colors???

I never thought the flower choices would be so difficult. My girls are wearing a Deep Purple....Lapis. I want to add some color to the flowers other then purple and white. Any suggestions? I was thinking orange.
Also, my florsit is trying to talk me out of the wrapped stems becuase she says that the only water source the flowers will have is what is in the stem. Our wedding is at 1:30pm and the cocktail hour starts at 5. She says that my flowers will wilt by the end of the night. Is this true?
I'm also have trouble deciding on what to have in my bouquet. I dont want all white or ivory flowers. I want some color to it. Again....some purple and possibly orange??? I also wanted some Gardenia in my bouquet because that is what my grandmother carried. My florist is trying to talk me out of the Gardenias because she says they will not last.

Also, you can always use a shade of green as an accent color. Green and purple (or lapis) look great together.

As pp said, gardenia are very delicate and can be very pricey for your bouquet. They also wilt and you will likely not be very happy with the outcome.
Adding green would be pretty. If you go with lisianthus there are green buds your florist can add in with the purple and ivory. If you want texture, you can add orange alstromeria, carnation, roses, spider mums, cremons, calla lily.
If you leave the stem ends unwrapped, the bouquets can be made the day before and kept in water before and after the wedding. It's easy and practical.
If you want to fully wrap the stems with ribbon, there are ways to keep some moisture inside BUT, that means more time and labor for the florist, and she'll have to finish them at the last minute. Not much room for error.
I think that when it comes to freshness/quality, you should always take your florist's advice. Or if you want to save time, at least consider doing the BM bouquets with open stems, and fully wrapping only your bouquet.
I've done a few bouquets with the full wrapping, and they actually lasted VERY well, even still looked good after a day or two (but it wasn't especially hot weather, and they were sturdy flowers, roses, carnations, lilies, gerbers...).
Assemble the bouquets as usual, cut it to the desired length, and wrap the ends in wet cotton, or a wet paper towel. Cover the ends with plastic to contain the water, and secure the plastic with clear packing tape, or waterproof floral tape. The cover across the very end with ribbon, then wrap the stems with ribbon.
But once you get the wet cotton wrapped with plastic, you have to keep the bouquet upright or the water will run out. Then keep the bouquet cool, in a refrigerator, or cooler with some freezer gel packs. (make sure it's not stored with fresh fruits or vegetables, and that you protect the flowers from the draft in a refrigerator, or the flowers will turn brown and wilt.)

We're wrapping the stems so they can sit in water at the reception - they also become decorations as well. Saves on arrangements for the head table or buffet table if you use them there.
Just a thought.
