Boston Hotels for Oct 2012

 I am getting married next October and most guest are out of town so I thought I was doing my  guest a favor by picking Columbus weekend which I was wrong. I am trying to find a reasonable hotel to use with a max of $220. Please help-any suggestions would be great. I picked one of the most expensive hotel weekends in Boston. I am getting married in the city and live in town so I would like to keep everything in the city. Please help!!!

    You might have luck with Ames Hotel (http://www.ameshotel.com/en-us/#/home/)
    They are located near the State St T stop.  Their cheapest rate is $280/night, but if you negotiate a housing block, you may be able to wiggle down to $220. 

    There are a few other cheap options, but I would be a bit wary.  Check their Yelp reviews, i.e. Club Quarters is cheap, but has gotten terrible reviews.

    Were getting married in the first weekend of June next year, and also had issues finding inexpensive hotels. But we did find a few under $200. Check out the Couryard Marriott at Tremont, and then there is also a Holiday Inn @ Beacon Hill we found for under $200. The Hilton Financial District had decent rates too.

    I don't really have any suggestions (sorry), as our fair city is not cheap when it comes to hotel rooms, weddings, etc.
    What I did want to pass on, is that the Holiday Inn Beacon Hill is nice and the staff there really (in my experience) have gone out of the way to make our budget work (I worked at MGH, we used them alot).

    Try the Hilton Homewood Suites in Arlington, right across the border from Cambridge.  They have decent rates ($150-ish?) and include breakfast and even a light dinner on weeknights.  All rooms have kitchens and there's free parking.

    I got married this past July in the city and I'm pretty sure the Park Plaza offered us $198 a night for our hotel block.  Worth checking them out.  Always try and bargain, It doesn't hurt to ask!

    Check out Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, it's still really close to downtown.  We are getting married there next August and our room block rate is $189.

    I would definitely check hotels in Cambridge.  The Marriott in Kendall Square and the Kendall Hotel are great, beautiful hotels and may be more reasonably priced than hotels with a Boston address.

    What part of the city are you getting married in? I would try bidding on hotelplanner.com and see if any bids come back that meets you rate and group requests. It's a lot of easier then calling every place :)

    You could also get a room block in quincy, somerville, etc and bus your guests... not ideal but just a thought.

    But my vote is for hotelplanner.com :) or any other site that does the work for you!

    OH, and keep an eye on the prices-- I wouldn't reserve a block yet, especially if it comes with any strings. It still really early. October is probably one of the busiest months (if not the busiest) in the city for hotels because of the amount of meetings and conferences it does. Hotels may have a lot of rooms still available for blocks but they might be holding out to book a large, revenue bringing conference, if possible. 

    I had my wedding on marathon weekend-- just north of the city and I did a few trial hotelplanner.com bids as well as contacting sales managers early on, and I think I finally booked my hotel block 7-8 months out and it was still very reasonable (and cheaper than it was 14+ months out).

    It's hard for hotels to predict the room occupancy this far out, so when they have a better idea, it'll become cheaper. Just don't wait too long, because it may go up-- but keeping an eye on the prices will hopefully prevent that situation!

    We have a block at the Courtyard Marriot in Brookline. It's not downtown, but the green line goes right by there and it's pretty close, also reasonable.

    I am getting married at the Ritz-Carlton May 27, 2012 which is Memorial Day weekend and is also expensive. We set up room blocks at the Radisson on Stuart St.($199) and the Courtyard Marriott on Tremont ($159)... the Ritz room block was $275
