Really need honeymoon ideas/advice

Since I have been doing most of the wedding planning, my FI is in charge of planning the honeymoon, but we are having a hard time figuring out where to go. We would be leaving from NJ (Newark airport) and want to take a direct flight no longer than 5 hours or so (FI hates to fly). We are looking for something tropical- I would prefer an all inclusive so we bugdet for it and pay it off in advance, but this is not a deal breaker. I also would really like an adult only resort since we will be traveling mid-June.

what we would love are beaches, acivities such as snorkeling, sports, nightlife, a casino would be awesome. And I really want to find a place that we can have an ocean view and a swim up bar somewhere on the resort.

I have never been to an island and he has only ever been to Bermuda. I also want to make sure whereever we go is safe and a nice selections of resturants/bars would be great too.

We will be staying for 6-7 days mid-June so we want a place w/ nice weather at that time- I heard Bermuda can still be cold then (in the water). Any suggestions on where to look? Our budget is around $5k give or take.

Thanks so much for your help!

  • Don't do Bermuda. Total waste of money.

Aruba and Puerto Rico have casinos at some of the resorts. Puerto Rico doensn't have all-inclusive resorts though. Aruba does, and they are very nice. Check out the Occidental Grand resort. That I know of there aren't any direct flights from Newark to Aruba though.

Jamaica is great and has many beautiful AI adults only resorts (Sandals, Couples, Hedo if you're feeling wild LOL) but they don't have casinos. If casinos aren't that important than you'd be good to go. They have plenty of watersports and activies during the day and night. There are also some tours you can take, like to Dunns River Falls, ziplining, etc. You can definitely get an oceanview and they basically all have swim up bars galore!

Go into a travel agency and just ask for some brochures, there are brochures specifically for honeymoons, all inclusives, and by country and they will list the resorts and say what amenities each resort has along with pictures. You will be able to narrow down places you like.

  • I think for what you are looking for you should look into St. Martin.  It is only a little over 4 hours to get there on a direct flight (I know there is one on Continental as we are taking it next spring).  I have never actually stayed on SXM b/c we head to St. Barth from there but I do know they do have AIs as well as casinos on the island.  The island is half Dutch and half French and I have heard that the dining on the French side is very good.  You would also be able to day trip to Anguilla, Saba and St. Barth if you would like.  There are both flights and ferries that go to each of the islands.

  • We are taking a cruise out of Orlando that goes to St. Martin and St. Thomas!  I've heard good things about both places and really look forward to it!  For us, a cruise was the best option for the money.

  • The Excellence in Domincan Republic... way under $5000 if you hit one of their sales.  They are always having 50-60 % off sales!

  • We are going to Sandals St Lucia. Its all inclusive and they have free water sports, snorkling, golf etc.

We are staying in a villa so its a bit more than your budget, but they do have other rooms within your price.  Airfare included as well.

<div>How do you take a cruise out of Orlando? Orlando is in central FL... </div><div>
</div><div>Great point about it having the casinos and getting a lot for your money, but alcohol and shore excursions are extra, plus you have to bring enough money to tip your room attendants and wait staff at the end of the cruise. Cruises are awesome and DH and I love them, but we didn't consider one for our HM because there are people everywhere. OP: your budget is great for a romantic AI in the Caribbean. You could go to a luxury AI with your budget. Have you looked into Mexico, Aruba, Antigua, Turks & Caicos, etc...?</div>
  • We spent two weeks in Sandals Antigua last August and LOVED it!  Definitely reserach them, PM if you have questions about it, we did lots of excursions AND there is a casino right by the property - it certainly wasnt crowded or vegas style but it was fun to play slots and FI enjoyed poker.
