October 2012 Weddings

YIKES!

So...we put my house on the market for rent about 8 months ago because my fi HATES where we live (I had the house before I had him). I live in a small town and there has been very little interest in the house (shown it 5 itmes in 8 months).

Well...today a couple looked at it, LOVED it and decided that they wanted to move in...NEXT WEEKEND!!! OMG. So...of course...I'm insane and for some ungodly reason I agree to this. So...we have 7 whole days to pack up our entire house (AKA: Wedding central), find a new place to live (yet to be determined) and move there. I see an extended stay hotel and a storage facility in my immediate future. HOLY NIGHTMARE. FI is quite happy that we are moving though...which makes me the best fiance ever. I plan to drink myself into a comma until I have to deal with this reality tomorrow. He's lucky I love him. We just made a verbal committment to get through the next month without killing eachother or calling off the wedding. LOL.

Where can I get boxes? Sealed

  • You are braver than I am. Good luck with your move!
  • Wow! You are brave! We are moving next week so I know how it is but we have been getting ready for about two weeks now.

I highly recommend making a moving binder - espcially if you need to put boxes in storage for short/long-term it will help you keep track of where everything is.

  • Yikes!  Good luck!  I heard recently that some U-hauls have a drop off place for old boxes so others can use them for free, so I would start there.  Through my years of moving, I usually would get some boxes from grocery stores, but also just buying the document boxes from a Staples because then I couldn't over pack them and not be able to lift them.

  • Wow, good luck!

Sometimes you can have good luck at grocery stores and also liquor stores are usually a good place to hit.  They'll tell you what day they get their shipments in too, so you'll know when they have the most boxes.

  • I feel your pain! We got lucky with boxes, on the 1st a bunch of people left their perfectly good boxes in the basement with the recycling. Totally snatched those up.

  • Not sure where you live. Restaurants are also good you just have to ask for the manager and see if they can save some of the boxes from their weekly shipment for you to pick up. Waffle Houses are good about that! Also dollar stores etc. Good luck with the move! So glad we already live in the house we're buying!

  • Holy crap!  Good luck!!

For boxes, my local liquor store has their boxes lined up by the cash registers.  That place is awesome...they don't break them down and the cardboard inserts are still in the wine boxes (I used them to store my centerpiece vases).  Also, my Sam's club always has the boxes up front.  You can check with your local grocery store...they usually have certain times in the morning they break the boxes down by...I guess because the stock the shelves overnight.

  • Pharmacy vial boxes make great moving boxes. Nice and sturdy but not too big. Hit up local CVSs, Walgreens etc. Make sure you ask the front store clerk add well as asking in the pharmacy. Good luck. PS I'm praying that you're able to keep your sanity through this, I know I wouldn't be able to.
