Menu selection on RSVPs

Hi all,

We are required by our venue to have our menu selection count ahead of time, so we have to put them on the RSVP cards. How would this sound? Please give any suggestions or any changes you would make!

The favor of a reply in requested by___
M/M _____________________
Please write the initials of each guest next to their menu selection:
______Chicken
______Beef
______Childrens meal

Also, did you put the actual menu slection or just chicken/beef?
Thanks!!!

Re: Menu selection on RSVPs

  • I put the actual menu selection- there were choices on our menu that I would've preferred one over the other, regardless of whether it was beef or chicken.  Random examples- I would prefer steak over chicken cordon bleu, but between stuffed chicken breast or beef tips, I would choose the chicken.
  • We are doing the actual food choice: chicken or beef and then # of kids meals. We have to give our reception venue a final count 2 wks before.
  • Squirrly, if those are your meal options, I'll send you my handwritten reply this week!

And ditto PPs.  Please be specific with the wording.  Sauces can make or break the desire for some to eat an item.

For example: DH loves salmon.  One of the options we had was salmon with mango glaze.  If he ordered 'salmon' and then at a wedding at had mango glaze, he's be one sad Mr. Banana.
  • I was just about to post a related post....  Is this how you word it when you need to know who is eating what?  I hadn't thought of the initials of each person next to each selection.  Good idea and takes up less room than listing everyone out.  Is this the typical way to do it?  Are there more etiquette acceptable options?

Thanks for the post OP, I hadn't even though of including food descriptions - I've never seen that before either!
  • Since I'm allergic to mushrooms and moldy cheeses, I would have a hard time choosing between beef (which often comes with a sauce including sauteed mushrooms) and chicken (which might be stuffed with gorgonzola) without a little more information.  And there are adult picky eaters to take into consideration - if you have a guest who won't touch cream sauce with a ten foot pole but who loves chicken, he'd be very disappointed to mark chicken and get chicken piccata.
  • Thanks for all of the replies! I will list out the description of each choice.

And to Lindze - I'm not sure how other people do it, and I'm not sure if there is a more acceptable way of doing it. I just thought this would be pretty eaasy to understnd but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas. Also, luckily for me, I have very few (if any) couples who have the same initials (which could be a problem if you do!) and those who do, I will just call to confirm...it's close family.

Thanks for all of the advice....you made the decision much easier!
  • Don't forget a vegetarian option! ;)
  • I put a full menu card in with the invite.  It has the full menu descriptions and then on the RSVP I just listed Chicken, Beef Fillet, Etc.
