Shot Glasses -- yay or nay?

So... my reception is definitely not traditional. We do not have many family members attending (due to location, travel cost, etc.). It will mainly be a large group of young adults. My wedding planner wanted to do something "fun" with us and have a special shot every hour (since we are not serving liquor -- just beer and wine). While I know this sounds more like a keg party than a wedding, we are just trying to have a great night with friends we do not get to see very often.

Based on this info -- shot glasses as favors? Yay or nay? We wouldn't use them for the special shots throughout the night, but I thought it would be a good way to remember the night... I know personalized beer steins, wine glasses, etc. are not looked at highly... but I haven't heard anyone's take on shot glasses!

Thoughts?

IMO, it depends on your crowed.  One of H's cousins got married last year, and they had shot glasses as their favors.  H's family are really big on drinking (not just the younger people...all of them) so it really suited them well.  I saw MIL going around to tables at the end of the night and stuffing any leftover shot glasses in her purse.

You'll probably hear not to get them because they are personalized and no one wants stuff with your name/wedding date on it, but personally, we don't have a matching shot glass collection.  We don't display our shot glasses, so I could sure care less if they match.

I think it sounds like fun and I am definitely not a young adult:)  If it fits with the crowd and theme then go for it.  We are serving soup shooters during cocktail hour and encouraging people to take a shot of alcohol with the shot of soup.

Shot glass favors would be fun. Like PP, I also have a hodge podge of shot glasses in our house, so I wouldn't mind another non-matching one.  If you want to get around the personalized detail, maybe instead of your names and date just get them all with a wedding-y icon (wedding bells, flowers, whatever).

I think shot glasses are OK, most people I know have all mis-matched ones anyways. I don't mind certain items personalized and this is one of said items. Sounds like a fun time with your hourly shots.

Although I am biased since my favors are hand painted wine glasses and certainly no-one will have a matching set as I am doing the painting myself LOL

I agree that it depends on the crowd.
I have two shot glasses with a B&G's name and wedding date on them in a drawer in the sideboard should we ever need some for a drinking game.  Which in 2 years, we haven't. =-/

Thank you for all the opinions! I decided to do them and get them personalized -- I know it's total cheese -- but we hadn't had anything personalized yet for this wedding! I used discountmugs.com to order and with a 10% online coupon code (keyword: brides) and $20 off for using google checkout, it was $1.35 for each one including shipping, tax, etc. I'm happy about it! :D
