Cake Tasting Etiquette

So we are finally doing our cake tasting this Saturday!

The baker told FI that they would have selections for us to try already. I took a look at their list and they have 12 cake selections, 10 icings, and like 50 filling options.

Would it be rude if I picked about 9 different fillings to try? I don't want to over do it but I mean, this is my wedding cake and I want it to be perfect...
I know they already have their standard tasting but I want to be sure that the ones I want to try make it to the tasting.

I'm just afraid of coming off too picky especially since it's going to be a smaller cake just for the 2 of us plus certain guests who don't like chocolate cake with alcohol. (The guests will have bundt cakes or cupcakes on their tables)

Also, we didn't even taste our cake and it was phenomenal. It's generally all good...have fun with it!

DItto Hike that I would just ask them what their policy is and how the testing normally goes.  You can even tell her that there are 9 fillings you like and are interested in.

Here's the thing that most people don't realize when planning the wedding... you'll be so busy that even if you do happen to eat a piece of cake, you won't have time to think if you picked the right flavor.  And nobody will ever say their wedding was ruined because they picked raspberry filling instead of strawberry.  Especially if the cake is really just for your and FI, I would probably just narrow it down to a couple that sound good to you both.  But it's totally up to you.

We didn't do a cake testing because my aunt made our cake.  We knew we wanted funfetti, and we both have had her white chocolate mousse filling before and loved it, so we just picked that.  The cake was fantastic, which we realized the day after the wedding when we finally got around to eating it!

With our venue, I did a cake tasting with my MIL and it was more of a quality tasting.  H really wanted Chocolate with Raspberry filling, so that's what we got.. They just offered a tasting so I could get a better idea of the quality of their cakes.  What we went with, wasn't even a sample that we tasted.

I do kind of agree with the others though.. 9 might be overkill!!

I would personally say that as long as you're going to go with them then it wouldn't be too much to ask.  You'll already be paying for the product, it should be exactly what you want.  Good luck!

Honestly, 9 sounds like a lot. Ask them what their policy is though. Sometimes you get 2 free and pay for additional.

Ok I went to FI house after work and brought the list with me. I read him the flavors I had marked to try and he made a face to about half of them. I am now down to only 3 fillings we agreed on. hah...

I knew 9 was too many but I just wanted to make sure we picked the right one and they had so many options. I know we will be busy with the whilrwind of the day but I'm really hoping to enjoy this cake!

So we are going to try these different cakes:
    Wedding White
    Marble
    Champagne

    With these 3 fillngs:
    French Vanilla Barvarian
    Ultimate English Toffee
    Creme Brule

Glad I simplified. The reason why we did was because I had marked all these alcohol fillings and forgot we are also serving our cake to guests who didn't want the chocolate alcohol cake we were also serving. When FMIL pointed it out to me I felt so dumb. It knocked off about 4 fillings I had originally wanted. haha

But I love our selection now. :)

Yum! We didnt do a cake tasting. A friend of the family did our cake. It was her gift to us. We were very plain. All I really wanted was butter cream frosting. I really could have just had a bowl of the frosting. Haa!

We didn't do a tasting either but we ordered our cake from my favorite bakery so I knew I'd love it. Plus like beach, we didn't want/have a filling.
