Centerpiece Giveaways?

Hi - Has anyone given away their centerpieces to their guests by using a placecard or something similar to choose which person at each table "won" the centerpiece? If you did, how did it go and what did you use? TIA!

Re: Centerpiece Giveaways?

  • I think that's more of a bridal shower kind of event.

  • The only wedding I've ever been to where the centerpieces were given away, it was more of an "if you want a centerpiece, please grab one on your way out" sort of thing.  Though if you think more people will want centerpieces than you have available, I think a raffle of this kind may be fun.

  • The only wedding I've ever been to where people actually wanted the centerpieces was when a friend of mine made these really amazing sculptures for each table.  She was intending to raffle them off, but she ended up keeping them all herself.

Otherwise, the DJ or someone just announces that people can take the centerpieces home if they wish, and anyone who wants one will take one.  Unless it's something really crazy cool, I don't think you'll have people fighting over them.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • A while back on some board there was a girl that said that they were putting a penny or something under a random plate on each table, and whoever had something under their plate won.

But like the PPs have said, unless you have something insanely awesome for your centerpieces, people won't be fighting for them. For the most part any wedding that I've been to were people were taking them, it was usually only little old ladies.

Remember, anything that's tall or large needs to be transported by whomever is taking it ... so somebody driving a mini-Cooper really might have no qualms about passing.

  • I have seen a couple of different things done.

Depending upon what you would like done & what kind of crowd you have.....

I have seen the penny idea done..

I have also seen the DJ ask one person at the table to pull out a $1. He then (with music playing) instructs guest to pass it from left to right, right to left & so on....in the end when he stops the music, the person who has the $1 in their hand get to keep the $1 & the person who gave the $1 gets the centerpiece!

Another idea was to annonce that the guest who has the closest birthday gets the take the centerpiece home!

    HTH!

  • I hate centerpiece giveaways.  If you have floral CPs, see about donating them to a hospital or nursing home.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • Every wedding I have been to has given away the centerpiece.
There are many different ways of doing so.
The dj can play some sort of game, that gets everyone on the dancefloor. Or doing the closest b-day is the winner.
I would get rid of them for sure, you really dont want to worry about packing them all up at the end of the night.
