DJ Thoughts? and Dollar Dance?

Hi girls,

My FI and I are looking to book our DJ now that we have booked with our venue.  We feel music is important, though we also aren't going to spend near a $1000 for any one.  We don't even really wanna spend more than $800.  After looking at some reviews online we have narrowed it down to a DJ Jason Palermo from the many phone calls we've made. Has anyone met him? We want someone who knows music and not someone who's out of touch!  We don't want a 'cheesy' DJ i guess you could say!  He sounded great and pricing was within our needs, but we cannot meet anyone as we are in Colorado for a few months! Help us!

Also, we are looking to find out whether people do the dollar dance anymore!

    We are also using Jason for our wedding. You'll find many of the girls here are using him. He's been great to work with so far, and you truly can't beat his rates. 

    As for the dollar dance, I don't think it's popular anymore. Maybe for a casual event, but if you're having a traditional formal wedding then a dollar dance will def detract from the elegance of your event. Etiquette wise you're not supposed to make your guests feel like they have to take out their wallets for any reason.

    Regarding the dollar dance, I didn't even know what it was until our DJ explained it. In my opinion, it's not something that you should do unless it's an ongoing expected tradition in your family.

    Ditto regarding the dollar dance.  Unless this is an extremely strong cultural tradition in your families please don't do it.  It's considered really rude to ask guests to open their wallets for anything at the reception.

    I know that he comes highly recommended on this board so I am sure you won't have any issues there.

    Agree completely with the girls...unless it is custom within your culture, I would not do the dollar dance for the reasons stated above!

    i agree on the dollar dance ladies! i have been to weddings in Pa and the dollar dance is just something they do out there, but i think it is a little tacky to ask your guests to give you more money to dance with you for 30 seconds..but if it's a tradition for your family, then do it, but if  not i wouldn't do it.

    I dislike the dollar dance.  I know some culture have a money dance but that is different than the dollar dance.  As my planner put it, any elegant high end wedding will not have a dollar dance.

    Ditto to the dollar dance... And about the DJ, he comes highly recommended on this board. Although I think just recently a few girls weren't able to book, I don't remember why though

    Yeah I am not doing the dollar dance.  I know Dj Palermo he is good But as tashala said some girls on here couldnt book with him. And my MOH couldnt book him for her wedding either he had personal engagements. I am using DJ Shawn Taylor. He is in touch as you say he is late 20s great guy. I can give you his info if you want.

    thanks ladies, we scheduled a time with him to talk via skype, after talking with him a second time, I can see his passion for music and he certainly didnt seem cheesy!  I aksed him about other brides not being able to book with him lately, mostly because he's got family weddings to attend this year or he's already booked the popular dates. 

    As for the dollar dance, you've all seemed to convince me, which in turn will convince my FI

    My FI and I booked with DJ Jason Palermo and we loveeeee him!!  He's really good about getting right back to you really caters a couples wedding to their personal music choices...Plus you can't beat the price :)

    My FI and I are using DJ Palermo... We loved him..he was exactly what we wanted and he does come highly reccommended on this board. As for the Dollar Dance, please dont.. it just seems tacky... GL
