Athens, Greece

My trip has been booked! Next month I will be in London and then we'll be in Greece, after not seeing eachother for FIVE MONTHS.

Anyone been there to give me good recommendations on where to go? Eat?

How have you girls been?

BF went there a few years ago and said that you should stay in Athens for a few days and then take a ferry to the islands. How long will you be there for? As for restaurants, he doesnt remember. :( Have fun!!!!! :)

Love your choice of destination!!!  It is one of the ones I really want to go to.  I don't have any advice, but if you get a chance, check out Santorini Island, I have seen pictures of it and I want to go there so bad.

    Athens is really nice!

    1) Not a thing to see / do but more a just FYI thing, the transportation is really well organized and clean and efficient.

    2) You can take a day trip to some of the closer islands, we were there for only three days and we went to Aegina, about an hour's ferry ride from Athens.  There are some pretty temples, and it's just quieter and gives you a little bit of the island experience.

    3) There are movie theaters on rooftops in Athens.  We went to see a movie at one and sitting outside and watching a film with the Acropolis off to the side, all lit up, was amazing.

    4) I just missed out on the new Parthenon museum by about a month, but it is supposed to be really nice.  The National Treasury has a spectacular collection, but it's kind of overwhelming.  The Byzantine museum is small but really interesting and well-curated.

    5) The veg food there is so. good.  I always had several options on any given menu.  If you eat fish/seafood, it's even easier.

Athens is a beautiful city, you're going to have fun!  I went in late May and it was hot, so April should be a bit milder but still plenty warm.

    You are a God send!!!

I am so revved up about going. We are definitely planning on going to check out the Islands. I will check out the one you mentioned. How did you get there? What do you do while you were there?

Do you remember where you saw the movie? That sounds fun! The rooftop bars are a plus - I'm excited for the views.

I won't be going to Satorini, although I wish I could! It's high up on my list of places to go! Maybe on another trip!
