Assigned Seating?

Most weddings I have been to have assigned seating.  I am expecting about 120 guest, it is going to be a nice wedding but it will be a buffet. I want everything to be as nice and organized as possilbe but  is it necessary to have place cards and assigned seating?  Does assigned seating make things easier? Will it be chaotic without assigned seating?

I know it's a pain in the a$$, but always do assigned seating. People will mingle during the cocktail hour.  Things may get chaotic or akward if you don't have assigned seating.

I think assigned seating helps a lot. It is a pain. Also I thought I would mention that we are doing assigned seating more like assigned tables.

Assigned seating avoids those awkward moments where a table may have 6 people sitting at it with 2 open chairs because no one likes sitting with strangers. Plus, in my personal situation, I have family members who don't get along with each other so it's better to keep them apart.

If you are worried about the pain of making each place card, make one large board and place it at the enterance of your reception that lists the table number and the people seated at that table.

While it is a pain to do, definitely make assigned tables.  I don't think I've ever been to a wedding with assigned seats, just assigned tables.  You can buy escort cards that you can print yourself.

Escort cards are placed with the guests names on the table near the entrance to the reception......PLACE cards are the ones that are placed on the place setting - at the table which tells where your actually sitting on that table - no need to use them, only use Escort cards, and these will tell people what table they are on and they can sit where they want at that table
