How early to send Shower Invites?

My future MIL is hosting my bridal shower at her house on Aug. 13. Is mid-June too soon/too late to send out shower invitations? We are sending our wedding invitations out the first week of July (for our Oct. 1 wedding), and am trying to make sure guests aren't receiving shower & wedding invites all at once. Any advice on when to send?

    Wedding invites go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.  If you are worried about out of town guests making travel plans, send save the dates or just call/email to let them know about the date in advance of the invitation. 

    I am not sure about the rule for shower invites, but I think 4-6 weeks would be appropriate.  I think mine went out in early March, and my shower was in mid-April.

    I agree that shower invites normally go out about 4-6 weeks before the shower date.
