Soundfront?

Hey ladies. So I'm trying to narrow down the event house I want and I keep going back and forth. Is soundfront really that different than oceanfront? The price difference is substantial so it's definitely more budget friendly and I end up with a nicer house for the money. Did you ladies have any issues with it or having the same thoughts? It would mean I would be renting transportation from the house to the beach access as well, but even with that added cost, the savings is substantial.

Re: Soundfront?

  • We just had my daughter's wedding at the Grande Ritz Palm event home on the sound. It was perfect! The ceremony was on the property's private sound beach. The sunset photos are beautiful. It was private and the ceremony easily flowed from the sound beach to the reception. We used Sandy Beach Tours for transportation for the guests. They did a trash the dress photo session a few days later, so they also have ocean beach photos.
  • I think it depends on what you guys envision your wedding to be and what you will be happy with.  I personally had to have an oceanfront home.  However, we looked at soundfront and oceanview homes as well.  We saw some beautiful homes that were soundfront and oceanview that were cheaper, but in the end we went with oceanfront because that is what I wanted and where I envisioned my wedding.  We chose to get married the first week in September that was considered off season to save money with the house that way.

Now when we go down for vacations, we usually rent soundfront homes because they are cheaper and we love watching the sunsets :)

  • We looked into Soundfront when considering an event home, pretty much for the reason that you said. We considered a beautiful home on a golf course(drawing a blank on name) but then came to find out that this year the sub division no longer allowed weddings and events. It's definitely an advantage price wise to get Soundfront if you don't mind it, and like you said, some of those houses are better than oceanfront, and much cheaper. In the end we ended up going with The Sanderling Inn in Duck. Oh, and if you have any Groom ?'s, I'm more than happy to help. Not just brides in the group. :-) Grand Ritz Palm is GORGEOUS but renting it takes a small fortune! But really beautiful....

  • Thanks for the input everyone. I do have it envisioned as oceanfront, but there are two beautiful soundfront homes I keep coming back to. I would love to go with what I envision, but when it comes down to it, him and I are footing the bill, so I've gotta stick to budget.

Phillyboy, I looked at Sanderling and it's absolutely beautiful. He has his heart set on an event house though and isn't really to negotiate on that :( I've been trying to get him to consider Sanderling and Budleigh.

FI and our friends are bringing their jetski's and boats down as well. So would that be better on the sound? I really didn't knwo what the difference was except it didn't have a beach lol. Being from the midwest I don't have much experience with it.

  • My family and I have been vacationing at the OBX for close to 20 years and have always rented a house on the sound, partially because it's a lot cheaper and partially because friends of our would bring a boat and my brothers loved to fish and crab off of the dock.  Plus watching the sun set over it in the evening is beautiful.  If your friends are bringing jetskis and a boat, the sound would probably be perfect for that.  The sound is very calm compared to the ocean (little to no waves) and, like you mentioned, there is no beach.

For my wedding, we have rented an oceanfront home, but that's just because that's what I've always wanted-to get married with the ocean in the background.  I also feel like it'll be more private using the beach right in front of the house that we've rented as opposed to just going out onto the beach at an access ramp and hoping there's a big, open area for the ceremony.  It sounds like you're still planning on having the wedding on the beach and just transporting guests there.  If you're trying to save some money, then I'd definitely say go with the soundfront home-they have such gorgeous homes on the sound, and it seems like a lot of them are much newer than the oceanfront homes too.  Good luck!
  • Buttercup, IMHO, I would visit ALL types of venues like homes and Budleigh/Sanderling.  Leave no stone unturned.....if you have the time, it's worth it, just so that you don't regret that you didn't.  FI sold me on Sanderling when I had my mind set on Absolute Ambiance(Event home) and The Whalehead Club.  Once we saw The Sanderling, it was a done deal, and that's what she wanted, and I like to give her what she wants when possible. :-)

  • I had my wedding and reception at a sound front home.  We thought we wanted oceanfront at first, but when we visited The Love Boat, we both knew we wanted to marry there.  We held the wedding on the private beach in front of the sound, and then popped a tent in the backyard and held the reception under the tent.  We could not have been happier, and our guests are still raving about how beautiful the setting was.  I think one of the postiives about marrying in a soundfront event home, is that is it private.  We didn't have to worry about radom people staring at us on the beach, or walking behind us in the background (I think most people try to avoid this, but some people do not have common sense).  Plus we held everything at one location, and didn't need to worry with transporting people all over the place for the wedding and then reception.  We even held the rehearsal dinner and morning after brunch at the house.
  • Thanks so much for the input everyone! Nate and I are going to visit as many of our "final contenders" as possible and see what we come up with. I really appreciate all the feedback, since I'm essentially clueless as to what I should do. I'm hoping that once I actually see the places, I'll know when it's the right one and fall in love with it :)
