Are you incorporating things from a movie/show/book/game?

I was just curious as to how many people are including items in their weddings (or even theming their weddings around) a movie, tv show, book (series), or video game, etc.?  I am seriously considering walking down the aisle to a song from LOST, and I'm sure we'll have other stuff soon from other shows and games we enjoy.  Perhaps a companion cube in there somewhere?  Lol.  What about everyone else?

  • We're having a "The Cake is a Lie" sign on our cake table.

  • I would love to do a move themed wedding but it just didn't work out for us. One of my BM is getting married next year and we are going to add some Star Wars things. I have so many ides!!!
  • We wanted to incorporate a lot of nerdy things, but our wedding is music themed and video games/movies just didn't fit with everything else.

...we are however (us and BP) being introduced to the music of a "Mortal Kombat" metal cover! =)

I also plan on buying FI stainless steel cufflinks with Goku (from Dragon Ball Z) engraved on them.
  • Some friends of mine just got married on April Fool's Day this year.  Their wedding theme was "Red Carpet".  They bought replica "Oscar" awards for their BM and GM to have instead of boutonnieres and bouquets.  They had an awards ceremony where each BM and GM was called up to "accept" an award just before the ceremony instead of "marching" down the aisle.  All the guests were encouraged to dress up (although it wasn't required).  The tables were decorated with popcorn balls and what looked like movie reels.  Their programs even had a "soundtrack" list on the back where every song from the reception was listed and of course each song was from a movie like The Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Top Gun etc.  The couple even made some (short) movies for us to watch before and after the ceremony.  One was a spoof movie of their honeymoon.  If you knew the couple this was perfect for them as the groom used to work for Warner Bros in CA before moving back.

  • MandaLynn- That's similar to some ideas I have for my wedding! Were also making each table at the reception with a different movie theme. This will include trivia about the movie (an icebreaker for people who don't know each other!) and popcorn sprinkled around. Our wedding party is encouraged to incorporate something in their attire to represent a movie. My FI best man is wearing a superman shirt under his button down. At the reception it will be open.. Good luck!!

  • I'm planning a StarWars themed wedding. We are not have light saber fights, but I am thinking a light show. For the center pieces, I am making square lampshades with the symbols of eras on them. The aspects of our wedding that stand out as StarWars are that I am walking down the aisle to the Imperial March, and the top layer of the cake is a helmet.
  • We are incorporating a lot of RENT into the wedding. I love it!

  • Our table names will be from various books/movies/games we love.  Such as Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Game of Thrones, Legend of Zelda, etc.

  • I'm walking down the aisle to "Concerning Hobbits" from Lord of the Rings.  Actually, all our pre-ceremony music will be movie/TV show themes (instrumental) and we are doing our unity sand ceremony to "He'll Make Me Happy" from The Muppets Take Manhattan.  :)
  • We incorporated Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure in the vows, Glee in the vows and music, Super Mario World in the music and Power Rangers in our cake topper.

There might have been more, but I can't really think of anything right now.

  • I bought FI a plushie companion cube for his birthday and we're going to set it on the cake table with a little sign that says "The cake is a lie". I'm also getting FI and both guys in the WP individual gamer/geek cufflinks (Decepticons for FI, undecided for WP guys)
  • COMPANION CUBE!  OK, I have heard of enough people using it that I can't NOT do it now.  It's gonna happen.  I should get little companion cubes for the Groom's Cake topper!  Yes...the wheels are turning now...lol.

  • I am IN LOVE with the "The Cake is a Lie" and companion cube ideas going on in here.  :)

FI and I are big WoW geeks, and all exclamation marks on our stationary will be just like the quest "!'s" in the game.  We've even thought about having a yellow "?" on the cake to signify the end of our "quest for marriage".  :)

  • I have a B.S. in Information Technology and work in the IT department of a hospital, so this cake was briefly considered.  :-P
